LT 160 what deck will fit ?

Hello all, gfs LT 160 42 inch deck came apart, previously welded by previous bf,go figure !. Going to lawnmower junkyard saturday,, still strong running tractor,2005 model. Will any other decks from JD work for this tractor ? Or will any other manufacturers decks interchangeable? Looked through forum threads, even looked at JD link that was in a previous thread on here. Any and all input, thoughts, experiences, observations, replies welcomed. Thanks in advance and good luck on all your projects,

I have the John Deere 160 (LT) Lawn Tractor, 1988, with a 38 inch mower deck (3 blade) - a bit different

You have the newer John Deere LT 160 from 2005. TractorData.com John Deere LT160 tractor information
- it says a 42 inch 2 blade mid-mount mower deck was original (same deck as the John Deere LT 170 model that followed)
- the earlier model, a LT 150 model had the 38 inch mower deck (my guess is that this would also fit)
- the parallel LT155 model had both the 38 inch OR 42 inch decks

I believe that if you stick with a 2 blade mower deck of either 38 or 42 inch width, it should fit, particularly if it is a JD deck.
the MANUAL LIFT detail of the mower deck may also be important

Got lucky on this gf mom bought her a new Craftsman 42 deck with hydrostatic drive. I gave her 100.00 for the LT 170 ,deck was already out from under it at local mower shop,they wanted 1500.00 to put replacement JD deck under it. I rode them to JD dealership, nothing there ,no inventory couldn't say when they could get one, Tractor Supply had only zero turns , Home Depot only had Cub Cader w manual tranny n zero turn, Lowes had the Craftsman. So I got an ideal running puller for all my small yard implements, now I don't have to use my Yamaha Grizzly for the yard work. And her mom bought lunch ,all I did was ride them around n pull the small trailer till they made a decision. 380 hours on the JD don't smoke and cranks right up. Thanks to all who replied and good luck on all your projects. Will keep on lookout on CL n FB for a used deck.

there must be some back yard (or other agricultural repair / service place with) mower mechanics around the area? put a Wanted ad on FB Marketplace and see what surfaces over time.

I'm looking for a mower deck, seat, and other misc parts for some projects, but I might end up buying an entire parts machine, on the cheap, to get those parts.

I just went through the same thing.
The deck on my lt 160 is shot, tractor runs fine.
JD parts said only the deck shell is available no complete deck... so you buy a shell for 850 couple spindles for 90.00 ea replace the brake blades etc...1200 bucks or so.

I have a couple rough acres to mow.
Solved my problem, bought a new 930M Commercial ZT 54" 7 iron deck, 25.5 horse Kawasaki commercial...Made to mow all day every day, should be the last mower I ever need to buy.
O down, no interest 48 MO...From JD

FWIW I've worked on an LT155 that apparently a Deere dealer put a 42" Edge deck underneath for him. I did PM on this for a few years before he killed the CV engine. They are certainly different designed decks than the original.

I have looked at pics of several JD decks including the "Edge" one. None of them look like the one that came on the LT 160 , I took the old deck when I picked the tractor up at the dealership that had it. They charged them 75.00 to pick the tractor up and look at it and give e estimate. I will continue to look for a deck as I have the original to compare with. Thanks to all who replied.

BTW, tractor had a new starter n battery and right front tire installed by dealership in March of this year. GF says she should have told me earlier about the whole situation with dealership. I'm sure I could have saved them some $$$ over what dealership charged.
