LS 4046 H
Grettings all, i have 46 hours, mostly idling on this tractor, the regen has been working so far, on off- today hauling a load of dirt, RPM raised to fast idle,a book icon appeared with a book icon saying AB 04....then there is a flashing red exclamation point flashing in the other corner......any one know what this means.... and I will say it, is there a bypass/ hack to be free of this EPA garbage ? I long for the mechanical injector days... Thank you for any help.

According to my owners manual the book icon function is not used. Neither are the clock, 4x4, quick turn, one side brake, EHL, Hyd. oil pressure and fwd/rev display functions. They are all in the display panel but not activated. Strange that yours has lit up with an AB 04 code.

The exclamation point flashing is the engine warning light.

As of my knowledge no one has come up with a bypass or delete modification for the emission controls yet.

A few things I have discovered reading on this site are:

Disconnecting the battery for at least a minute then reconnecting will reset the ECU. (I have not done this so not sure if it actually works).

Remove the ground cable where it connects to the frame and clean the contact point then reconnect. Some have had poor ground conditions.

When the engine goes into regen raise the RPM to 2400-2600RPM until complete. The regen process requires higher engine temps to burn off the soot deposits. Running the tractor for extended periods at low RPM and soot not burning off properly can lead to engine going into limp mode.

When operating the tractor these tier 4 engines do not like to run at idle for extended periods, they like to run above 2000 RPM.

If none of the above helps to solve your problem it may require a trip to the dealer to clear and reset the code.

I have just over 200 hours on my XR3037HC (3000 and 4000 series tractors have the same regen cycles) and no problems (Knock on wood) yet.

Don't feel bad, all tractor brands with tier 4 engines have their share of problems. I had a tier 4 interim tractor prior to my LS and it was flawless. I just needed a bigger tractor and went with LS due to best price with the most options. Good quality fuel and running higher RPM's seems to work for me on these tractors. My neighbor has a new Massey Ferguson and has gone into limp mode 3 times this year. Been back to dealer each time. His Dealer and I have told him to run higher RPM but he continues to run at idle or just above.
I said the same thing about cars years ago. They have made them so you have to go to the dealer with all the computer crap today. Unless you own a classic car that you can still work on or can afford the diagnostic equipment you are at their mercy. I have equipment for working on cars but tractor diagnostic equipment prices are way out of reach for the average homeowner.
My dealer is only 20 miles away and I have a trailer. Fortunately mines never been back to the dealer. Try the tips I mentioned before calling.

Well,I called the dealer first thing,he was very sympathetic...even lawn mowers are giving them fits,he said send a pic, and I did, I will wait..the regen button is dead, but it still runs !..Ive been building z 28s Norton's. Bmws,Guzzis , and Had my adult life, rarely get stumped, I just have minimal insight into these engines...I left Niagara/Buffalo after retirement to avoid all the control issues up there, only to find it's every where ! Interestingly, my fuel injected computerized Road King has a tuner mod that has been a blessing...runs cooler stronger, and It was de Catted...hope someone develops a system for these things..a man shouldn't need to play games with his equipment to merely use it as intended.

The regen button is only used to postpone / inhibit the regen process. It will not force the tractor into regen mode. Pressing and holding for more than 2 seconds will put it into the inhibit mode and a dash light will come on showing regen with a line through it. Shutting off the tractor then restarting will put it back in auto regen mode which will come on when soot levels are high enough where it requires it to run. Hope the dealer gets back to you soon.

I own a used 2002 Electra Glide Classic (fuel injected model). Bought it with aftermarket exhaust and I don't see any cat's on it. Don't know if it has a tuner mod but it runs strong. Previous owners says dealer installed the exhaust system so I'm guessing he changed the tune as well.

I think this is good advice. I've seen anecdotal evidence in various posts indicating that refusal to run these modern engines with exhaust after treatment at higher RPM than the "olden days" leads to problems.

Well worked it hard yesterday, moved a lot of sandstone boulders for the final landscape push, worked well, still runs, however the RPM jumped up to 2000 rpm and this time the 2 yellow icons went on indicating regenerating....maybe its fine, ? before i retired in 14, I had a line truck that used DEF fluid, periodically we would add a gallon now and then, and it would occasionally go into high revs.. and smelt like melted crayons....oh well, its running.. And George, your 02 is pre catt, that **** thing makes a LOT of heat, or did :)

I was getting error "ab 04", with rpms stuck at 1500. I continued to use it not sure of the solution. Eventually it started losing power too making it unusable. After reading through these forums and learning about the tier4 issues I decided to just let it idle outside by itself. After an hour or more the error was gone and I had power and control of the throttle back. I considered the egr valve, checked the grounds, everything I could find but thankfully it ended up being the simplest solution. It just needed some alone time to think about it's emissions. Been there brother!
