Hi everyone. Been reading and learning the last few weeks. Thanks to all the great info here, I have a new XR4040H on the way. Should be delivered by the end of the week.
We recently moved to a new to us home on 10 acres. Home and yard is about 1-2 acres, about 4 acres of woods, and the rest is overgrown fields. Tractor will be for snow removal when needed, wood/timber clean up, and cutting brush and high grass in the fields. The woods do have a significant slope, so not a lot of tractor movement there. Would like to add some food plots in the future. Driveway is not very large, maybe 80X20. Do have and additional parking area, but not a lot to clear there.
I started out looking at sub compacts, like the JD 1025R. Found after looking at them, they were way to small. I had narrowed my search to JD 2 or 3 series tractor or Kubota L series. Almost bought a JD 3038E with FEL and 72" rotary cutter for $24,200. I then decided to check out what other tractors were out there. Needless to say, I quickly realized I could get a lot more tractor for my $$.
I have dealers for JD, Kubota, and LS/TYM within 15 min. Kioti and NH/Kubota about 30 min. All dealers seemed established, and great to visit and talk to.
Dealer had a XR3037 shuttle for a good price, but after driving it, realized I wanted a hydro for all family members ease of use. Dealer found a XR4040H in IL, and had it shipped to PA. Could have ordered a new XR4140H, but it would have been while to wait, and a few grand more. So I went with the XR4040H with FEL and 72" rotary cutter for $23,100. I thinks it's a good deal, but will give the tractor a good look over as it was sitting outside a while.
