LS XJ2025H
Hello everyone, Thanks in advance for any tips, guidance or suggestions.

So I have a XJ2025H (hydrostatic) I was in the middle of tilling a garden bed, after a couple hours of tilling and spreading mulch I climbed off the tractor and within a couple seconds the tractor died and will not turn over. At the time the tractor died the PTO was not engaged and was in the neutral position.

Since then I have checked all fuses, including the 40amp slow break fuse and replaced them all with new. I've checked the PTO engagement switch, and the seat safety switch, both appear to be in good condition. I toggled the hydrostatic pedals to make sure they were resting in neutral and they are. The power panel on the dash illuminates, lights and blinkers work, As a last ditch effort I tried jumping off the tractor just in case it could have been the battery.

Any thoughts on what to diagnose next? I am at a loss with limited mechanical skill.

You could bring the battery to an auto parts store and have it load tested. On mine, the only thing that would make the tractor do what yours is doing was the PTO switch at times. When it was young, you would have to snap it on /off a couple a times and there she would go. I'm not sure if the reverse switch is in the crank circuit or not but the seat switch isn't. Welcome to the TBN!

I have an L series Kubota. Although hydrostatic it has a clutch. I must depress the clutch in addition to satisfying all the other safety switches. Do YOU have a clutch?

Any clicking sounds when you try to start it?

I found a toggle relay that had broke on the hydrostatic arm that wasnt engaging and keeping it from turning over. Without the relay depressed it was sensing that the tractor was in gear and preventing it from turning over. Now it will attempt to turn over but wont continue to run, seems there is some issue with the fuel pump or a relay to the pump. Since it cranks now but wont stay running. II have checked the fuel filter, purge the fuel supply lines and I am getting fuel both on the supply and return side..........Fixed one issue to find another

How long have you had this machine? Engine hours?

You said 'I was in the middle of tilling a garden bed, after a couple hours of tilling and spreading mulch'. That doesn't sound like something that should break things the way mowing tall grass or brush might. Were you doing anything else prior?

Just for clarification.....it will turn over, start and run for a few seconds, but then dies. Is that correct?

Thats right. As soon as you let off the starter it dies instantly

It could just be cold. Try running your glow plugs for a few seconds (if it has them) then try the starter. It could also be a heater relay of you have an intake heater instead.

Could be a faulty fuel solenoid or a bad switch. Just a thought.

That sounds like a bad key switch to me, after it shuts off, is there a quiet humming or buzzing sound for 5 to 10 seconds after the tractor shuts off?
If so, that is likely the fuel shut off solenoid on the injection pump running to shut off fuel and make the tractor stop running.
If you are getting that sound, I would replace the ignition switch as my first troubleshooting step.

So what / where is this toggle relay and what repair was done? I could look on my rig for reference for you. Is it possible that the current condition is related to this?

Sounds like my Kioti when ignition switch went bad. I could wiggle it and usually find the spot to stay running. Sometimes had to do same to turnoff. New switch was perfect fix.

So it starts but won't stay running when you disengage the key. It sounds like the key switch has something going on or the microswitch you found broke isn't working correctly. Did you bypass the microswitch? If you can give us more detail as to what you did with the switch or how you fixed it. Is there a pressure switch in the seat?

I know this is an older post. I had the same issue. It is a blown 10 amp fuse in the fuse block. When I finally located mine, it was under the floor pan!! Hope this helps someone in the future.
