Mowing LS size for bush hog

I would recommend the 6ft. It goes where my tractor goes, as in, if my tractor will fit, so will the mower. If getting into tight spaces is a concern, look for a shorter mower or a flail mower.
If you get the 5ft, you will most likely regret it and end up selling it get a 6ft. But that is just my opinion.

Agree.

Tractor weight, size, and balance for deliverability and power for cutting efficiency. I have an older Ford 1720 (25Hp ?) and a newer LSXR4140H. The Ford can handle my Woods 72in (med duty) mower but only on level ground as long as I don't have to turn very fast. The LS... no problem.

I have the XR3135H and it runs a 5' medium duty rotary cutter fine. I'm cutting overgrown wooded area brush (mature grapevine and asian bittersweet vine, predominantly). Basically I'm using my FEL a couple inches off the ground to ensure I dont hit rocks and stumps, it knocks down most things, then the rotary cutter chews it up as I go over it. It has handled some fairly brutal stuff.

I got the 5' because I knew I'd be using it this way, not as a mower.

Here's an example. The cleared area on the right was exactly how the uncleared area on the left started out when we got the property. 56711097_602640843583457_813966276199186432_n.jpg

My LS is 41 hp (33 pto) my track is 6' wide.

I am looking at brush cutters, most everyone recommends getting a 6' to cover my tracks but,

1) I won't be cutting much grass or any fields

2) I will be mowing a power line a couple times a year

3) I will mainly be using it for brush cutting in the woods & swamp

I am thinking of just getting a medium to heavy duty 5' cutter because of maneuverability and substantial cost savings, plus I don't think having a cutter quite as wide as my tires is that important for my uses. I am afraid with a big 6' I will be banging into trees all the time!

Need some advice, what do you think 5' or 6' ?

Went with the 6' because I found a good deal on a very gently used Land Price RCR 1872 on Craigs List!
Thanks for the help.

How has that Land Pride held up? Still happy with your choice?

Very happy with it, bought some new blades for it, but still cutting with the old ones! I have 2 Land Pride implements (Rotary Cutter & Rear Blade) and am very satisfied with both of them!

I went with a Bush Hog BH215 and operated exactly like this, bucket level and about the same height off the ground as the BH215 is cutting. No stumps or rocks found and it pushed a few bigger 3" oaks right out of the ground and the Bush Hog chewed them up. The 5' is just slightly wider than the MT240.

I've got a 5' cutter, it is narrower than the MT240. With R4 tires the LS240 is between 65 and 66 inches wide.

Can the wheels for R4's be switched side to side for a wider track? The MT240 I looked at first with R4's was barely any wider than mine with the R1's set at the narrowest track.

I don't think so, there is no room between the tire and wheel well, it's a pretty beefy stance.
