I've been looking at a LSXR4145 so I can make the change to hydro drive.

I was impressed with the LS.
The only thing that concerns me is the resale market.

I talked to a few of my friends/neighbors and they never even heard of LS.

Most of the newer tractors in my area consist of Massy, NH, Kubota, and Deere.

Has anyone around here sold their LS? What was the market like?

One guy just sold his MT125 fairly quickly to upgrade to a larger machine.

People may be unfamiliar with the LS badge even if they already own a machine made by LS such as some of the NH models.

If you are buying with resale being a major consideration I'd recommend only looking at deere and Kubota.
If you are buying to use look at them all and get what fits you and your situation.
I grew up on Allis Chalmers and Farmall/IH, still run mostly IH or Ford/NH with a bit of Deere and I bought a Branson for my driveway tractor.

Good advice.

I plan on keeping my LS for 15-20 years so resale was a minor consideration. But having said that, I think of LS as the new Kubota....entering the market with good machines that are below market value...so poised to appreciate down the road.

If you trade it early, you will lose a higher percentage than a Kubota, but if you wait long enough you will likely be pleasantly surprised....just like the early Kubota buyers.

Due to the lack of knowledge around the LS brand, the resale will be somewhat lower than the same LS tractor with the New Holland logo. That said, when I was looking to purchase a tractor, I also looked at the used market. I did not see any used LS tractors for sale. I asked the LS dealer about that, and he said that people love them so much, they dont sell them.

I'm like that, I love my LS. I got a great deal on it and I will run it until it quits to the point I cannot fix it or cost more to fix than buying a new one.

If you are planning on reselling your tractor at some point, and that's perfectly fine, but you want to get the most out of it, sadly for now, I'd look at a different brand. If you want a tractor that is the same as those bigger brands for a better deal, cannot beat LS.

I've owned about 10 houses in my lifetime. Every time I bought one my intention was to live there for the rest of my live. I've had six (?) tractors each one I also intended to keep forever. Sometimes things don't always work out that way. That's one reason I always try to look at resale.

Thats a really good reason! I pay attention to it, but I dont base my purchasing decisions solely on resale value. Not saying you are by any means. It's a good question to ask!

I know this threads a month old, but I have an example (sort of) that fits.
I've been wanting to upgrade from my XJ2025 (Gear) to a larger unit.
I went and talked to my dealer about possibly doing a trade-in.
It didn't go so well. From the time I was initially scoping out dealers and gaining product info before my first purchase up until this point, my dealer had been nothing but perfect in my opinion. They never failed to help me out with anything.
That was until I mentioned trade-in. I received so much run around from them for about two months, it was a little disheartening.
Eventually I had enough and just bluntly asked them what the issue way. Their reply was, because I had bought the gear drive version, that they didn't have a market to sell it. Therefore they could not take it as a trade in. Then they just stopped returning my calls all together.
I was extremely bummed to say the least.

That’s unfortunate! It seems like gear tractors might be a dying breed because my dealer has had a nice, used 3037 w/ cab and a gear transmission on his lot for over a year now. When I asked him why it hasn’t sold he told me no one wants gear anymore. It’s all hydrostatic.

Hydro is like an automatic transmission in a car. Try to find a manual anymore. Which is very sad.

The larger tractors are even going hydro, just like the big Semi-Trucks going automatic.

About the dealer: Dealers are great, until it's time for them to take a gamble. If there is the possibility of loosing money, they will pucker right up, especially these smaller dealers who dont move a lot of their inventory. I'd look to sell the tractor yourself, probably get more for it anyway. Or have the dealer sell it on consignment, if they'd take that challenge.
