I really like this unit. Drove one over the weekend and really put it through a good workout. It was a unit in for its first service and had a 4' bush hog on the back. I went over it from top to bottom and have some questions for those in the know:
1. How does the electrically actuated PTO work on lighter implements? I've read about violent starts on some of the first Boomer 25's. The bush hog seemed to start smoothly, but it had a lot of inertia.
2. Has anyone had any durability issues with the PTO? I would like to know how this thing actually works. Is it hydo or clutch/gear driven? Does it have a built in over-run feature that lets the implement spool down on its own when disengaged?
3. I don't like the exposed hydro filter and cooling fan. Anybody fabricated a guard for this area?
4. Likewise on the exposed front driveshaft. Any issues with sticks/grass here? A simple driveshaft tunnel would be nice.
5. The steering is mounted low in the front and looks like it might be the first thing that hits that hidden stump or rock. This probably concerns me as much as anything since I spend a lot of time in the woods and overgrown pastures.
Any other pros/cons that anyone would like to share would be appreciated.
