Do you like your 5000 series Deere and would you buy another? Are you glad you bought it or wish you didn't? Love it or hate it? Use it much?

One might be on my shopping list and maybe even one that's a year or two old. The other choice would be Kubota and probably a year or two older as well. HP range would be 75 or 85 and if it's Deere, the M series. Maybe a cab. I already have a year 2002 model 5520 Deere that has been great except for one issue back in 2002 (that the dealer never resolved). I also have smaller Kubotas that have been flawless.

Verdict?

I hated mine. A lot of people who buy the 5000 series only put 1 or 2 hundred hours a year on them, not really working them and love them. I think they were better tractors pre 2012 also. I've talked to a few farmers in my area in the last year that had 5m's that weren't too impressed, many around here used to run one as a small yard tractor and let the bigger tractors do the real work. I notice more and more of these guys running a Kubota as a smaller tractor now and keeping the big Deeres in the field or not running a tractor of that size at all.

I think for the money, you get way more tractor with Kubota.

Have a look at a MF 5609 or 5610, just for comparison...... Check out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QyNW97c74RI . This guy has a lot of reviews and info on his 5610, pretty long and drug out but gives a lot of good info. He switched from Deere.

From the majority of the negative post on the 5 series it looks more like the 5E's are problematic. I haven't seen much negative posts on the M's.
Not that I think it's anyway acceptable for the E's not to hold up. You pay a premium for the green paint and it should preform as such. The brake issues on the E's are totally ridiculous and Deere needs to address them asap before someone is seriously injured.

I have a 2011 5083E and have had very few issues with it. I had to swap the coolant lines to the unit in the cab to get the ac to work right. No biggie. Also had to replace a pin for the diff lock that fell out. I also don't have the float detent in my one scv but I think I caused that problem. It hasn't been fixed because it hasn't been an issue yet. I'M I think the newer 85E and 100E have had more trouble than the earlier 83E or 101E had.

If you are looking for a tractor for tillage or pulling, be sure you compare machine weights. The Kubotas in this size range are significantly lighter than the E's and even more so than the M's. When I was looking the 83E was around 1700lbs heavier than the 8560 IIRC. THE m deere's are usually 500 or so lbs heavier than the comparable E's. I have added beet juice in the rears and wheel weights. I still don't think the tractor is quite heavy enough.

I guess I would say I would probably by another but I think I would be better off with a Massey Ferguson. I growed up on all the popular brands such as Deere, Ford, MF, Case, IH, and Allis Chalmers. Things I like about my 5055E is it has a heavy frame design and a proven engine and transmission. Things I don't like that would drive me to the MF is cheap stickers, hoses, and the QA in my opinion was terrible. I have been around and drove a lot of Deere equipment in my life time and must say the Deere equipment today is not like the Deere equipment of yesterday. The yesterday equipment was built with nothing but quality in mind. The Deere equipment of today its obvious its about how cheap can we build it,get it to work (at least for a while) and sale it. I will be honest they are starting to remind me of MTD. I wish Deere would turn back to there old ways. I

No major issues on a 5055E and a 5085E (the 5085 had a leaking seal that the dealer fixed no problem).

The 5055 has 275 hours, 5085 has 220 hours.

I have 6 5000 series and some are pushing excess of 400-500 hours a year with no issues. Its the 5D/E that are the bad apples from the bunch. Most of mine are the 5x00/10/20/25 series though. I have one 5M with 800 hours now with no real issues before/after it was stolen but insurance and warranty has covered everything. Had another 5M before with 500 hours but traded for a cab unit. Only had one issue with that, but dealer warrantied the shifter module.

Since I have a 5520 nd it's been great I had thought of just buying a used 5x00/10/20 or even 25. Probably in the 80-90HP range. Are you aware of any real issues with the 25 series? There are a few large dealers near here and farmers often trade for the sake of the trade, especially if grain prices are good, and I can often find a lot of used earlier models to choose from.

My 5520 has been flawless and seems "beefier" than the current models.

52/5325 are ridiculously under powered for their weight. I haven't experienced the larger 54/55/5625. If you're shopping in the 80/90 HP range why not jump to a 6000? something like a 6410? Just stay away from the 20 series. Too many fuel issues to list which is a common problem with the 6020 series.

The 6000 weighs more than my trailer needs and is physically bigger than fits since it gets hauled around from time to time. I need the pulling power in a smaller package. That's one of the reasons I am also looking at Kubota since they are lighter for the comparative HP. A good 5410/5510 or 5425/5525/5625 would work.

My Deere 5520 with radials and weights will out pull anything comparable. It is impressive in that regard.
