I have a 1989 1520 ford hydrostatic tractor with loader when I start it and for a while thereafter a loud screech comes from what I think is the loader control valve gets better as machine warms up acts like low on hydraulic fluid but is not any suggestions?
Tractor has about 2500 hours

Recently bought a 2000 NH TC30 with 600 hours. When I used the loader - it screeched. I greased it and it helped some. I changed the hydraulic filter on this gear tractor and the screech was gone. I guess the filter was too dirty to allow the oil to flow fast enough through it to be pumped where it was needed.
-good luck

I changed the filter shortly before the thread now that it is warm out it does not screech I am going to change the filter when I get the tractor back from my son thanks I have not checked this in awhile

Derek, on NH compacts, all the hydraulic flow goes through the loader valve before going to the 3PH if a loader is installed. Your loader valve is open-center and the fluid should flow right through. Does the screeching stop when you use the FEL? I'm thinking the screeching might be internal, but it also could be high frequency vibrations. If you can hold your hand on the side of the valve (not the joystick) and cause the sound to decrease or stop, you might find something vibrating against other metal and causing the screeching sound. When the fluid warms up, the metal expands and screeching stops. However, if you move the joystick slightly and the screeching stops, it's probably an internal part that is vibrating.

Take pressure relief valve out, inspect, and clean if no obvious damage.

I am also a proud and new owner of a 1989 1520 and am very happy with it so far. I'd like to hear your thoughts on your tractor and would appreciate any advice you can send along. I've put mine through some paces this week-moving rocks, pulling stumps, grading, etc. and it performed very well. I changed all the filters, coolant, blew out radiator fins, etc as soon as I got it. My loader screeches a little if I let it down to fast, as long as I control descent it's fine. Thanks

I found this tractor to be indestructible excellent tractor I did make one mistake with mine when I bought it I put calcium in The rear tires now the rims are really showing signs of rotting it the valve stems I should have put tubes in would have saved a lot down the line. The calcium makes for twice the tractor though.sorry it took so long to reply I just realized I could find my previous threads. Anyway enjoy the tractor

Yeah unfortunately I'm going to be facing the same problem with the calcium chloride. I bought the tractor this way and it's dripping out of the valve stem on the left rear and I can see signs of rust as a result. But I love this tractor, I've been working it in the woods moving rocks, making driveways, etc. and it's worked very well. I do worry about the tires/wheels but I'll deal with that when the time comes.

If you get the valve stem to the top of the of it's cycle then jack up the tractor (get the weight off the tire) then you can release the pressure and change the valve stem that will at least stop the leaking. I do not know if the stem is any thing special so maybe get a new one before you start. I am not sure what the pressure should be off hand if you do not have the manual let me know and I will scan and email.

I'm a bit fearful of opening up a can of worms if the valve stem insert is rusted in or if it comes out in pieces then the tire/wheel has to come off to replace the valve stem and thats a job for a pro. I'll probably tackle it later this fall when I've finished up some work I've got going on
