I know there was something on it before but couldn't find it . The other night while working the loader I lost the lock on the float position. Float still works but I have hold it there. Took the valve cover off and everything was in place but couldn't tell were the lock is activated (joystick or valve itself). Anyone have any suggestions before I call ther dealer?

Thanks,
Kevin

I hope someone answers this question, as I have no idea where a float position is on my LA352 loader. I don't see anything mentioned about a float position in the tractor or loader manual... What is the float position anyhow?

Goatman , I'll try to explain it . But it may lack a bit .

Move your loader control handle to the down position . When it's fully down (and most likely lifting your front end ) push the control a bit further . You should fell a detent as it goes past the down postion .You'll notice the front drop . Basically float takes away the hydro . pressure on the lift cylinders . It allows the bucket to follow the contours of the ground using the weight of the bucket . Great for smoothing out dirt, gravel , etc . Hope it makes at least a bit of sense to you . John

DGM

Nixon explained it well. there was very little explanation of this feature in the documentation i received with my setup, so i am not surprised you missed it. until someone said something on here, i didnt know about it either.

as was mentioned, it works nicely for smoothing things out...especially with a full bucket for more weight pushing downward.

just push the joystick up higher than you normally do, and it should click into float position and stay there if working correctly.

khd It sounds like your detent broke. My BX2230 did exactly what you describe here. The float won't stay. While my detent didn't break it got some stuff into it which made it stay open. How to fix yourself??

khd & co -

I lost my "float" detent several weeks ago - I took apart the "top" of the FEL stick assembly (at work right now - will post some pics on my website later) - but the detent (ie spring loaded ball) is NOT at the *top* (control stick) end. I took the "rubber boot" etc off the top end - only the lever / spool mechanism there.

Therefore, I think it must be located somewhere within the hexagonal "extensions" (I think these also contain the springs that return the FEL stick to *center* when released) that point downwards at the bottom of the valve assembly - these are just below where the FEL quick disconnects are located. I think that it may be easier to get at this part of the valve assembly with the FEL taken off.

Since I haven't been doing too much levelling lately - I haven't needed the float control. I've been saving this fix for *later* - I might have a go at it tomorrow AM - I'll keep everyone posted.

Hope this helps,

Dan

The same thing happened on my joy stick. The float detent was stuck and would not hold the float position. Since the machine was only about 15 hours old the dealer came out (no charge) and lubricated the detent and it has worked perfectly since then (about 7 months ago). I was not there when he fixed it so I cannot tell you how to do it. I will also be watching this thread to see how it is done.

Thanks for the reply...A little more looking and nothing on the outside so I think you are right: It's in the valve and the dealer is going to have to fix this one.

Hopefully my rear remotes are in and I can have it installed and the valve "replaced" all at the same time. Seems the loader hydraulics have been my "lemon" on the tractor as I had to have all 4 quick connects replaced the second day after delivery as all 4 JIC fittings were cracked and leeked under pressure. The dealer said they have seen a few of these.

If its any help, I noticed that after a few months of new ownership of my B7200 that the float position would stick or be hard to engage. Ever since then (17 1/2 years ago), every time I park my baby I let the loader float down to its resting position. I have never had a bit of trouble with it since. I'm guessing or assuming that by using the float position each time the tractor is out that the little bit of clearance that is in the spool of the hydraulic valve allows some fluid to leak by and keep the detent lubricated. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think most hydraulic valves have no 'O'rings, just tight clearances letting the fluid make the seal.

KHD: same thing with my 7610....... I don't miss it much but I will eventually have the dealer fix it.
