First, Hi all first time post been reading a while though. This may get long sorry about that. After 6 yrs of trodding through Empire Farm Days and all the county fairs I am now able to get a new tractor. I decided on a Montana. So on May 9th I headed to the closest dealer and found a R2844. It had everything I wanted: FEL, 12/12 trans and 2 pairs of remotes in the rear. What it didn't have were ag tires ( R-4s on it). Salesman says no problem we'll order ags in and swap. Great! . So the tractor with rimguard in the rears, 5' brush hog and a 7' rake cash deal $18,200. Sounded good to me. I took a copy of the quote and told the salesman I would call Mon with my decision. Called Mon salesmans not in on Mon.( funny he didn't mention that to me) Secretary would pass along message. Tue afternoon I called (after not recieving a call) and told the salesman I was going to take the tractor. He said great and he would get the tires in and call me at the end of the week. The bank called the salesman Wed.(needed the ser# for the chk). No phone call by Fri afternoon so I called. Salesman told me tires shuold be there 1st thing next week and he wuold call me. And if I need the tractor I could take it and swap the tires later. I told him I can wait and will await his call. So next wk comes and no call. I call Wed and the secretary tells me the salesman is in the field. I explain to her in my stearnest tone that he hasn't called me back and I was wondering what the status of my tractor was. She would pass along the message. So late thurs arrives and no call. I call. Salesman says that the tractor with the ag tires we're swapping with (hmm I thought we were waithing for tires not fot a whole tractor) would not be in on Fri and because of the holiday. It would be here Tues 26th. And if I didn't mind that my brush hog would be upgraded to the next model up with a clutch on it no extra charge ( I guess they sold the one on my tractor) That's fine with me! Then those famouse last words: I'll call you first thing next week. Well, it is now Jun 14th and no contact at all. So last Wed. I returned my check to the bank. to top it all off I sent a quote request to the East Stroudsburg PA dealer on Jun 8th and haven't heard a thing from them either! I surprised in this economy that they neither need my money or want my money! I didn't want to spend a lot more money for a lot less tractor from the big guys but..... I'm losing faith in the Montana dealers.

I am like you I would have thought in this economy dealers would want to make a sale, but consider this a blessing in disguise if they wont call you back now you can bet they will be harder to get a hold of if you have a problem after the sale if it could be any harder, dont give up keep looking and ask farmers in your area who they deal with you'll find a dealer that will treat you right, dont make the same mistake I made when I bought my first tractor, I bought on price alone and I did'nt get any service after the sale, lesson learned sometimes you have to pay a little more to get GOOD service from a GOOD dealer, it's well worth a few hundred dollars more. Good luck.

this behavior is totally unacceptable it is obvious they do not need your sale, find another dealer they are not all like this i wish you were closer i would recommend my dealer great to do business with even with service and warranty work. on a side note my dealer has been in contact with montana regarding a pto issue i have and they have been great it is my impression that montana does not share the same attitude you local dealers have, maybe they would to hear from you so they can see how their dealers are handling their future, remember if the dealers do not sell anything montana fails they depend on these guys for their future.

After all this crap, why would you buy a Montana? I own one so it is a legitimate question.

Why not buy one? One bad dealer does not make a bad brand. I know 2 JD dealers I refuse to do business with, a Chevy dealer the same. Find a good dealer regardless of brand and you are better off. My Montana T7074 is out working every day mowing hay and doing great and at a significantly lower price than a similar MF. My sis and BIL are looking at trading their MF 231S for a cab Montana from the same dealer I got mine from.

This spring I bought a boat. Two dealers had the exact boat I wanted. The closer dealer must have had your dealer's cousin on staff. Dealing with him for over two months was a foolish exercise. I decided to make the overnight trip to the second dealer and just buy that boat. When I arranged the meet the dealer changed the venue to a location only two hours away. He also dropped the price 4% to make up for a mis-communication. Once I was testing the boat he agreed to resolve every detail I brought up. Personally I would have paid more for this identical boat knowing that they treated customers well.
My advice, walk away from that dealership because you can't expect them to ever treat you right when you have to beg them to take your money in the first place. Find a dealer who is happy to have your business. It may not be easy or convenient but think of all the self respect you'll have to go along with that new tractor. :)

Not to hijack the thread, but might also show how even with how tight money is these days more and more seem to not need business.
My recient gripe was this;I need to buy 4 new tires from a place that I deal with extensivly both tire and auto parts.I buy a fair amount of tires from this shop for at least 8 years.Anywasy the guy answers and asks my name I told him and we continued.I said cah I have a price for four 'out the door' tires with size xxx xxx .Id like to go on the lower end price wise.As I have doen for years.
He asked if I had shopped around ?I said no I have give up on the box stores and dealt with them exclusively.
His responce was to shop and get a couple of prices and call back and he would match or beat the proice with a better tire.
Whats that all about??It was clear I didnt want too hassle to go to other stores..
I could easily play along and went to wal mart online and got a price ,lol But seems to be counter to selling..I was really looking for a ballrark price also.
anyways I just wanted to tell my experience. Its more widespread than just tractor sales

I was told by my Huskey rep (his rep too) that the dealer in East Stroudsburg went out...that's why you more than likely didn't get a call back.
