A while ago someone had a problem with axle nuts loosening on a disc harrow. The problem with standard fasteners is that all you can rely on is friction to maintain clamp load in the joint. Thread adhesives, metal lock nuts, nylon insert nuts, etc. have proven to be ineffective in many applications. Wedge-Lock washers rely on the physics of tension instead of friction and are not effected by lubricants, thermal cycling, high dynamic loads and constant vibration. Used by the military for artillery equipment applications, wedge-lock washers do not require special tools and are maintenance free.

I am the T-B-N member who has posted on Nord Lock wedge lock washers, which have met my expectations.

I would buy a US produced brand just as soon as the Swedish originals, if available in consumer quantity. Do you have plans to distribute via eBay or Amazon? At one time I believe I saw Heico-Lock products on eBay but the marketing was unimpressive, or the sizes not what I needed, or the quantities too large; or something.

You are very near Everything Attachments. I suggest a sales call on that business which could give Heico-Lock exposure on T-B-N.

During my working years I built multiple wine brands from zero or a low base. I know how difficult getting started is.

Good luck.

Thanks for the info. Heico-Locks are made in Germany and are a lower cost equal to Nord-Lock washers. They are stocked in Hickory, NC. You can order small quantities in a variety of sizes and they will ship to you the same day. You can call 888-822-5661 for more info.

I had issues 2 times with front axle housing bolts loosening up. I put on the Nord-lock washers and new 10.8 bolts+ blue Loctite and so far everything is staying tight. I don't know if it was the Loctite or the Nord-lock but no more problems with those bolts.

We do not recommend thread adhesives with wedge-lock washers. Adhesives introduce friction and reduce your clamp load. It is best to apply a moly based lubricant to the threads and also to the underside of the bolt head (where most of the friction is) such as Molykote 1000, then torque in a star pattern.

Thread adhesives, metal lock nuts, nylon insert nuts, etc. have proven to be ineffective in many applications.

Or drill a hole and use a castellated nut and cross pin.

Bruce:
Lets assume you use a castellated nut and there is vibration and the nut backs off 0.002" into the pin. Even with this small amount of clearance, a good amount of your clamp load has now been compromised. This condition can lead to bolt fatigue and ultimate failure. The issue with the hole is now you have less material and less strength with possible stress risers that can also lead to failure. The wedge-lock is a simple and effective solution.
