How do I change pins in my front end loader? I have a B2150 with the LAsomething loader. Are there bushings in the pivot points or just pins with zerk fittings? Where do I get the parts?

Thanks,

Howard

I don't know for sure about your particular loader. Check with the dealer for a parts breakdown. Most do have press in bushings, typically hardened steel. You can get split tension bushings from baum hydraulic once you know the sizes and qty. They will be about $8-12 each.

Free tip. To get out stubborn bushings that have been pressed in and don't want to come out. Weld a ring around the middle of the bushing (inside) with a mig welder or a stick. Take care not to burn thru. Once cool you can get them out by tapping or pounding.

You will need to size the bushings to the new pins too.

I don't have a B2150 but my loader bucket mounts with 4 - 1" diameter pins. I took out the original pins the had e-clip retainers and replaced them with 1" pins that have d style handles on them and a large clip pin on the other. TSC sells a variety of pins of different diameter and length. and if and when they wear out I can get new ones.
If your bushings that the pin goes through are worn out, they may be welded in. Some loaders just have a pipe sleeve welded in that is then drilled and tapped for a grease fitting.

I have an old Ford BH with sloppy pin joints. Do you think these can be restored?

I had considered reaming them out some way and using oversized pins

Paddy,

Yes.

Did you want more detail?

I am finishing up doing this with my old ford 723 BH. All of the boom, dipper stick and bucket bushings have been replaced and new pins made to replace the old ones. You can get "hardened steel split tension bushings" from Baum Hydraulic www.baumhydraulics.com. You will need to know the OD, ID and width along with qty. I made the new pins from 4140 steel rod bought from www.metalexpess.net. Buy HOT ROLLED ANNEALED and have them cut it to the correct length. If some pins have rotation stops on them, you can weld the 4140 easily. You can heat treat to harden the pins, or leave annealed and replace them every 5-10 years (which is easier and cheaper to do than the bushings). I am not using the clips, but drilling holes and using cotter pins. May be a mistake, but easy to cut grooves later if needed.

Worst bushing was taken out yesterday from the boom lift cylinder. The pin had been welded in by a previous idiot (er, owner) and there was 1/4" of gap between pin and bushing! New bushings, new pin - no slop.
