loose fel lever

i know ive read this somewhere in here before,but i cant find it again,

is there an easy way to tighten a loose fel lever without tearing the boot,and without taking the whole front cover off.

any info would be appreciated thanks ......chris

I tightened mine last time without disassembly. The bottom of the lever threads into the base and a locknut follows on the lever towards the base to keep things tight. You need to rotate the lever within the confines of the boot. You can only get 180 degrees or so before rippage. So spin the lever CCW to a safe boot tightness, with your fingers feeling through the boot run the locknut CW down to the base, and then twist the lever CW (helpful to keep a pinch on the locknut) to tighten. This method may need to be repeated to get the proper orientation of the lever but is a piece of cake.

Just close your eyes and visualize the interior of that boot.

The lever stinks to use when all floppy so I know that this fix can be done while on a job in about 10 seconds.

thanks highbeam,maybe it was you that posted that fix before?

i'm residing my house right now and was moving a pallet of hardiplank around to a different side and the **** thing just started spinning,glad i wasnt doing anything important at the time,would of had to quit and try and fix it

that is why i had time to consult with the world of tractor information tbn!! i knew one of you guys had to have this happen before.

it does make things interesting though,like when your rolling the bucket up and down.

i just finished another side today so before i get back on the ladder tomorrow ill give it a try.....chris

Sounds like a nice rainy day project. A little loc-tite would probably keep it from happening again.
