What model of 4060? Cab? SSS or EHSS? Do you plan on keeping the same implements as the TC40DA?

...oh yeah, I was supposed to be commenting instead of asking 20 questions.

Of course, the 4060 is a great tractor, but any upgrade would send me around to all the Crayola colored dealers to see what they offered. I know it is heresy to say that in the NH forums, but you can just call it Christmas shopping. Oh lord! I just said the C-word.:ashamed:

Questions are good; and I was short on time earlier. It is raining right now
so I have some free time... Hit 70F today, 25F tonight and 40F tomorrow
for a high.

Back when we purchased the TC40 it was a compromise between
Hydrostatic that SWMBO (my lovely wife) wanted and loader capacity.
Since at the time the TC 40/45 were the largest Hydro's that's what we
got.

So now with the EHSS which was not available back then in the TC line
I think SWMBO will like the EHSS as well as the hydro; she is good with a
clutch but does not like them at all, go figure... Only now I can get the
larger loader 3500 pounds with the 270TL v. 1700 on the 17LA loader.

What started this was Saturday after I got the TC 40 all zipped up and
running she commented on how it is "damaged goods" now and maybe we
should think on trading it in... My tongue bled I was biting it so hard; but the
brain kicked in and the Tim Taylor gene kicked in and well she is still warm to
the idea and I have Kerry at Union Hill working up some numbers...

Decided on features:
1. No cab, too limiting on my property, I often have the ROPS down to fit
under various obstacles. Now keep in mind I have 10 ish acres and except
where I dig a hold there might be, and I am stretching it, 2 foot difference in
elevation from the highest to the lowest point, more like jus a foot maybe a
hair more...
2. EHSS for SWMBO, cannot have too many levers and pedals to confuse her
pretty little head (no she does not peruse the forums here. ;) )
3. Super Steer, I got it, I love it, and again some tight fits on my property.
4. 270TL loader with quick attach likely will get a 7' bucket for it.
5. will use existing implements

Implements are:
NH 105A Roto-tiller 72" (great implement)
King Kutter (Bush Hog) 72" (price v. value it is very good value)
Rhino finishing mower 72" (I would not recommend it, poor design and poor quality)
3pt post hole digger
Berlon Pallet forks (with custom added round bale spear) excellent forks.
My 6' bucket will go with the TC40DA trade in

Of course, the 4060 is a great tractor, but any upgrade would send me around to all the Crayola colored dealers to see what they offered. I know it is heresy to say that in the NH forums, but you can just call it Christmas shopping. Oh lord! I just said the C-word.:ashamed:
Christmas, christmas, christmas, sorry I am not PC;
never have been never will be.

I will likely visit a few and I will entertain quotes any of the other suppliers that
frequent here, please include a quote on my TC40DA with 360 hours on it as of today.

However, with the past history of Kerry and the great service I got from him
on the latest repairs it would take a heck of a deal to pry me from them.
When I purchased the TC 40 I got as identical as I could, and it was not hard,
quotes from JD, Case and Kubota, they were all $4500-5500 higher than Kerry.
It shocked me.

:D:D:D Didn't realize I sounded PC. I was referring to how Christmas always seems to sneak up on me and I'm not prepared. However, stores seem to put out Christmas stuff earlier and earlier each year. My wife asked me why they had to go straight to Christmas carols after Halloween instead of having Thanksgiving carols. I reminded her of "Over the river and through the woods. . . ," and she said she thought that was a Christmas carol too. Well, I had to look it up and sure enough, it has Thanksgiving in the verses. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving and Joyous Christmas.

if you are financing this tractor no color can beat new holland's 0% APR for 72 months with no money down!!

I agree your dealer sounds like a keeper and I would stick with whatever color they sold. I have a similar version of that (CaseIH DX55). I also have an older Ford 850 that I thought I was replacing when I bought the 55, but I kept the 850 afterall. They share the same footprint so it's handy to have a second tractor while working up and dragging the gardens, etc. ANYWAY, comparing the standard clutch/gear tractor with the EHSS... while the EHSS is much nicer to use and I love it, it does add a level of complexity to operating it. You still have to cycle the clutch (inching pedal) and the brakes every time you lift off the seat before it will go back into gear. And if you don't do that first but put the EHSS in Forward then remember to cycle the pedals, it will lurch when you let up on the inching pedal and you'd better have your seatbelt on! Simple enough eliminate this if you cycle the pedals quick each time you jump back on or sit back down, and then push the EHSS lever forward, but that is an extra step that is not on a geared tractor. It forces you to use the clutch pedal sometimes, but not often enough to get good at it. So I would say EHSS removes the skill of having to use the clutch but is much easier to use if you already know how a clutch operates. Now on the geared tractor the clutch rules everything. It becomes second nature to work that clutch first no matter what you are doing. With the clutch and gear shift, only two things to work with and you work them every time, all the time. The only skill is to learn how to feather it.
The bottom line is I like them both, but honestly think you give up some simplicity to get ease of use on the EHSS. I couldn't imagine a replacement for my DX55 though. Keep that all in mind not for yourself but for SWMBO. Test drive a EHSS in tight conditions backing up and inching up to an implement for example. Drive, stop, jump off, get back on, drive, and do this several times to get a good feel for real use. Don't just drive one in circles around the lot.

My thoughts are i made this move from the tc40 to the tc55. I like both tractors and the differance is the 55 has more power and the ehss has more power to the ground. If you are going to trailer the tractor the 40 is easier to move and is better in tight spots around the job site. I would look at the 6' bucket because the 4060 has a bucket much bigger than the 40 and is matched to the tractor. You will have to load the rear tires with weight or fluid or both to get good performance . With the 6' bucket and no weight i cannot use the front loader in a safe manner at all.

Well the dealer got back to me with numbers.

$40,000 for the 4055 (w/loader, EHSS)
$22,200 trade value on my TC40DA

0% financing which I will use as I do not have $17,800 in the bank.

What do you all think of that?

I think I would ask myself one question before making this deal:

If you walked into the dealer and saw your TC40DA sitting there beside the 4055, and without owning either one, would you be willing to pay $17,800 more for the 4055?

Or, I'd look at the price of a new 3040 HST and compare that to the 4055. You have to ask yourself what it is about the 4055 that makes it that much more valuable? New Boomer 8Ns are now selling around $28k with a loader, turbo 50 hp engine, and CVT transmission. $12k more for the extra 5 hp, a bit more weight, heavier loader, and EHSS seems excessive.

I know your dealer is a good guy and has been extremely helpful with your engine problem, but you still have to ask yourself some tough questions because the bottom line is that you have to have some value for that $17,800 that will repay you over the life of the tractor. If you see that, go for it. I don't won't to prejudice you against what you may feel.

On the other hand, I have my TC45D and just bought a 2005 LB75B for $21,500 cash. I paid cash and it wasn't financed, but still you can see the value of money by that deal. $17,800 is a lot of value to give away for just a slightly bigger tractor in my opinion. Just don't make a snap decision...I know you won't.:)

What do you all think of that?

In 2007, I paid 28,900 total for a similar (red version) EHSS DX55 with LX360 loader. It came with 2 sets of wheel weights, a block heater, grill guard, bucket hooks, and 2 rear remotes installed.
What could you get for your TC40DA if you sold it on your own?
