Hey everyone,
I'm new here. I have a 5 acre ranch that I just purchased. Its in So Cal. Not much snow but when it rains I need to clean my roads. I also need to mow the weeds as they haven't been mowed in a while. I realize I will need a tractor for maintenance and other stuff around the property. I also do construction and on occasion have to rent a tractor or hire someone with a tractor.

I'm in the market for a mid size tractor. I went to Kubota and checked out their L3901. It looks like the size I need. I want a loader, Gannon, and Mower. I would love the backhoe but that takes me out of my budget. Kubota is doing 0% financing for 60 mo. L3901 with ganon and mower at dealer is $30K. I have also found a used 06 L3400 for $14K with 250 hrs and clean with the same attachments. Don't know if buying used is wise with the 0% financing.

Does anyone think they will be changing the L3901 for 2015? I also looked into the TLB L39. It was 6K more though. Don't know if it is worth the extra money and gets me out of my budget.

Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks

You might want to contact Davrow. He just went through this same deal, has a place in the same area, might even be in the same development. I'm sure that he can and would give you some insight. A good guy.;)

....L3901 with ganon and mower at dealer is $30K.....a used 06 L3400 for $14K with 250 hrs and clean with the same attachments...
I personally would jump on the L3400 for the savings alone. Are these HST models or gear?

The L3901 just came out, I don't think there will be any changes for 2015 on it.

HST Models. Are these Kubota's generally reliable considering they were well taken care of? Thanks

That is a huge price difference.
The 3400 is definitely worth a look with only 250 hours

In my opinion, even if it's not well taken care of, they are reliable. The relief valve opens before damage is done, it not like you can ride the clutch with a HST. The one issue is if you can live with the 3ph jerky-ness (if it has it) on the L3400. Very slowly move the 3ph lever up with something attached on the 3ph.

The new 3901 is very smooth but not 16k better... IMO

When I traded in my 2010 L3400hst for my Kioti it had 228 hours on it, and it was like new. Yes the 3pt hitch was jerky, and we hear the L3901 have that problem solved, but that is a lot of money, for basically the same tractor. I would give the L3400hst a good looking over, and it certainly merits your consideration. 250 hours is not very many, my Kioti has quite a few more than that on it. Yes the Kubota L series are very reliable.

Thanks guys. I will go look at it today. I am also considering the "Kubota Package deals" From Coleman in Tennessee. The same set up on an 18' trailer for under 25K. But now I have to get it shipped over and it looks like $1500 will be the cost. I can sell the trailer for $1000 and still be way ahead. I'll go kick the tires on the 3400 first. Thanks

Be leary about package deals. There are usually little things with the tractor, attachments, loader and trailer that are what brings the prices down. For Example: Tires R1's are cheaper than R4's, no quick attach on the loader, no rear hydro's, value priced bucket (not HD), lower grade or light weight attachments, used tires on trailer, painted instead of powder coat, no brakes or on just one wheel, non treated floors. There could be others but this is what I've seen.

Typically used is a far better value, but the industry has suffered a bit of a slow down this year. If you shop around you may find a great deal on new better built machines like Deere, Case IH or New Holland.
