I recently bought a 2013 MF 1526 for use around my property. It'll be used primarily for snow removal in winter and for some coarse mowing chores and general use in the summer.

Sorry for posting questions that have probably been asked and answered a number of times, but I've been playing with the search function here to try to find information on a couple questions that I have about this machine, but am either doing it wrong or gave up too soon before finding the info. (I've been searching for an hour:()

#1-what engine oil I should use? The manual states that I should use a 10W-30 for my climate (I'd prefer to use a synthetic oil), but I'm having a hard time finding a diesel rated 10W-30. Most of what I'm seeing is 15W-40 and the like. Also, can I use any oil filter that cross references over? I picked up a Purolator filter that is supposed to fit.

#2-I'd like to rig up a couple rear facing work lights by mounting them on the existing flasher/blinker brackets. I'm not sure about wiring these up. I'm hoping that I'll be able to find some unused power taps in the fuse box, mount a weather resistant switch below the steering wheel somewhere and wire them up. I've done this plenty of times on cars and trucks. (I am a redneck, after all:D)

There will be lots of other questions that will come up about this tractor and my ignorance of it, but for now, if anyone can kick me in the right direction regarding the above I'd appreciate it.

Pics of any aftermarket lighting set-ups would be appreciated, too.

Thanks in advance.

Can't help ya on the lights, but I use 5w-40 synthetic in mine. Currently giving Rotella T6 synthetic a whirl, but typically I've used Mobil TDT synthetic.

If you operate in a very hot climate, 15-40 might be safer, although it'll probably shear down to 5w anyhow.

I've got the oil situation covered, but I'm still hoping that someone might be able to offer some advice on adding rear worklights.

My owner's manual indicates that the wiring harness has a provision for rear worklights. I guess I need to dig into things a bit more this weekend. We're supposed to get a window of good weather in a couple days, giving me the perfect opportunity to change the oil and spend some time looking at the wiring system.

There are many threads on rear work lights. Type led rear light in the Google Custom Search box, it only searches TBN.

Thanks, Xfaxman. I tried a search before starting the thread, but probably didn't use the right catch words. I'll give it another try.
