Hi,

First post and I don't want to start a battle. I am looking at an L3240 Kubota and a DK40SE Kioti (Both HST) I realize the difference in hp rating but in my case its not a deal breaker. I've sat on both and got a good feel for both and like the controls but the pricing is more for the Kubota with the 724 loader and 1 rear remote then it is for the DK40. I suppose I'm looking more for opinions here from people that own either of these models. Example, do the owners of the L3240 find that they are ever underpowered? Is the HST+ REALLY worth that extra $$$ and as far as the Kioti, has anyone had any major issues with the DK40? Ideally, if anyone has had spent a significant amount of time on both and could offer some insight?? I have 100 acres, mostly bush. Going to be maintaining trails, pulling out logs and bush hogging 5-6 acres a couple times a year. Also, snow clearing. No brand loyalty. I have a dealer for each brand within half hour drive. Both are good dealers. Also if anyone can offer pricing in Southern Ontario, that would be a bonus.

They are both good machines, No significant issues with either. The DK has a stronger loader and is cheaper, the Grand L has hst+ which from what I can gather from experienced users is the cats meow. I haven't used it.. Some people don't like the single pedal system on the Kubota, some do. Some people don't like the two pedal sysem on the DK, some do!. It is just what you get used to. I have heard a few people say the 3240 is underpowered, But others say no big deal.. It is a heavy tractor. It might make a difference in what size of rotary cutter you choose. I don't think you are going to make a bad choice no matter how you go, I have owned 2 Kubotas and one Kioti, but I have not owned a 3240. If I was in the market for a Grand L, I would have chosen the 3940 to get the stronger loader and some more ponies up front. My DK is the DK35se not the DK40se. so I am down on horsepower a bit also and don't have the stronger loader as the DK40 has. That thing is a beast. But I love my DK35se, and it works very well. Maybe someone else will weigh in here with some more insight.. good luck.

If the 3240 is adequate, why not consider some other Kioti models that compare better and are probably even lower in price? But, with that much land I'd go as big as you can afford.

I had a L3130 HST and never found it under powered. Most reference to being under-powered were when the tractor was equipped with a back hoe.I traded up mostly for the cab.

The one main thing that kept pushing me to buy a Grand L Kubota was the HST+. I think it is just the cat's meow and I'd love to have it. But, ultimately, I just got more for less with the Kioti DK50SE, so I went that way. I'd still love to have the HST+ though.

It's probably impossible to go wrong with either the L3240 or the DK40. My only hesitation would be on the power of the 3240. Other than that, it's a great tractor. I suspect the 3240 would need a 5' rotary mower, while the DK40 would handle a 6' one.

I went through a similar choice a two years ago when comparing the DK35SE HST(almost identical to DK40, and which I bought) to the L3540. Both my dealers are excellent. However, Kubota has the advantage of brand recognition and (I assume) parts availability, and likely, resale value. Resale value is not important for me since I don't expect to need another tractor. To me, the fit/finish/quality of both tractors look about the same.

Items (for me) to Kioti's advantage are: separate forward/back HST pedals, rear hydraulic valve(Kioti includes 1), skid steer compatible loader, and rear control for the 3 point height.

I am neutral and maybe even a bit negative on the HST+ feature, even if Kioti had the equivalent (which it does not). I like the idea of Kubota's dual, external lift cylinders but don't know if they are actually better than the internal cylinder. The Kubota's loader hydraulic quick disconnects are positioned handier than Kioti's which require one to lie under the tractor.

My DK35 is at 610 hours with no issues. I suspect a Kubota would be the same. They are both good tractors.
