As it says, looking for a heavy, solid, simple (preferably) MFWD 45-50ish HP tractor for bush hogging, pulling 2 16's, and maybe running a small square baler. I want something heavy and sturdy, not that keen on 'roided out lawn mowers. I was looking at something along the lines of a Mahindra 4530 or 5035, but the local Mahindra dealers seem to be confusing their red for green given the price quotes they've been throwing out. I mean, goodness -- they've had one used 4530 on their lot for over a year and they've increased the price on it three times. :confused2:

There's a couple of 4120's for sale locally -- anything better for what I am looking for? I'm okay with finding an older model if that is what it takes.

Thanks up front, fellas.

I've always had good luck with CNH products as well as John Deere. The only thing I have that may be close to what your looking for is a Case-IH Farmall 45A. It is 45 horse and is a nice, no electronic simple tractor with great features. It is easily my favorite tractor that I own. Mine is 2wd but the FWA model would have no trouble pulling a 2-16. Even baling you could jump up to a 55A for not much more. I paid $15,100 for mine last spring and it was worth every penny and more. Make sure you check all the brands and price them all out. You never know just where you may end up. Good luck to you with your tractor search.

Also, I think it is the 5D line from John Deere that is similar to the Farmall A line from Case-IH. Both are a solid, dependable tractor built like tractors were built in the 70-s and 80's but with some modern style and options (like telescopic draft links and stabilizers).

I've been trying out the Yanmar EX450 from the local dealer this week. I've been really impressed with it so far. I've been lifting some pretty heavy round bails with it. The thing doesn't even have fluid in the tires and it feels stable hauling one of them around. The power the thing has I feel pretty confident telling you that would be a great tractor for what you were looking for. If you wanted a hydro the LX4900 looks like an awesome tractor too.

Robert is right it is the 5D line from JD. They make a 45 and a 55 horsepower tractor. I am really impressed with the whole 5D and E line from John Deere. In the not too distant future I might be looking for a 2WD tractor to pull the rake for baling. If I end up buying one it will almost certainly be either the 5045D or the 5055D. For what they are, they are a great machine. I think they are both in the $15k to $18k range.

The new lineup of D and E John Deere tractors will be available in August... latest word on the street; at least. The 55hp and up can be had with cabs and wet clutch, 12x12 reverser transmissions, too. 'Course that progression goes "ca-ching$$, ca-ching$$", too!
