Buying Advice Looking for a rotary cutter, any advice

I have a 2520 and I am looking to buy a rc. I have looked at the frontier and land pride. Does anyone have any advice on what they use? I will be using it for light brush, mostly field grass. I am not looking to break the bank due to the restrictions the conservation commission had put on mowing. I am only allowed a few times a year to "maintain" the field.

With my 21 horse Kubota, a 4' cutter works real good unless it's high clover and wet, then I works very hard. Later in the year when the clover dries out some it is no problem. With an extra 4 horse you could get away with a 5' cutter.

I have a 2320 with a 4' Land Pride unit I bought used and it works pretty well for me. I have the iMatch system and had to tweak the upper attachment point with a chain and clevis since I was bending the support arms. I would also reccomend getting one with a slip-clutch as opposed to shear bolts IF there is any chance of hitting stumps, rocks, uneven dirt etc. The slip-clutch costs more, but it saves you the time/trouble of replacing bolts.

Thanks guys. I was looking for a 4' cutter. It seems that a 5' is pushing it alittle. I have read that guys have used a 5' but it seems big for the 2520. How do you like the Land Pride RC. I like the made in America aspect.

I bought the last lx5 my dealer had to use on my 2520. I had to mow in low range and did not have a problem with cutting. JC

I'm also looking for a 4' cutter for my 2520. I've looked at the Frontier RC1048 and the Bush Hog SQ148, both run around $1300. I don't mind spending the cash for the better cutter, but after looking at those units, I'm realizing that they are pretty light duty, and have to wonder if they'd be any better than a $700 King Kutter. Both of the first two units are quick hitch compatable, not sure about the King Kutter.

I'm running a Frontier RC1060 (5 foot) on my 2520. It is a light duty cutter, but I only cut field grass/weeds, about 4 acres at a time. So far, the tractor has had no problems handling this cutter. I do keep my loader frame on for counter weight. If my property were dead flat, I could probably mow in high range, but I've got bumps an hills which keeps me in low.

If I was going to be cutting heavier brush, I'd probably try to find a heavier duty cutter, or at least a cheaper light duty one that I didn't mind tearing up.

That is my concern.....the ONLY thing I'll really be using this for is to knock down 1" trees, they're pretty soft wood, grow like weeds. Once I get them knocked down then I'd just maintain those areas. I'd hate to spend decent coin on a frontier or BH, only to get it all twisted up, when it wouldn't necessarily do a better job for me than the half price KK.

I have a John Deere MX5 on my 3720. I needed a 5 footer for going between trees. It is heaveier duty, but it makes the front of my 3720 light, even with the bucket.

The MX series is rated for 2" saplings... The LX 1". IF I was looking for something to cut real brush with all the time, I would get the heaviest duty one I could afford, or be welding supports on a lighter duty one.

My neighbor has a light duty 6' hog and I weld on that thing every week when he uses it at his deer hunting property.

You will also NEED a slip clutch, not sheer bolts.

Do I need a loader for weight purposes? I planned on buying one down the road, but the rotary cutter took precidence. Would weights do anything? I would probably get a 4'.
