Many of you probably know what is going on with my NEW tractor and how it can't stay out of the shop. It went back again yesterday, 1 hour after they dropped it off again and not even 5 minutes of running time.

Anyway, I'm looking for a new one now and need you all's help deciding what to get.

What I need it in is at least 50 HP. Preferably 60-70 but at least 50 to run my 16 foot moco and baler.
I need two sets or rear remotes
3 point hitch or fast hitch with the 3 point adapter.
Live PTO would be nice but I've used an old super C farmall for years without it and can do it again if needed.

I don't care about power steering or a cab or anything other than a comfortable seat and a strong engine that runs when I need it.

I have a Super M here for parts. The engine was seized up terribly in it. I've been messing around for a year trying to get the last stuck cylinder out. I could restore it if I got hot but not in time to do any good this year. I'd love to have a nice working super M, with a 3 point but I don't think they come with remotes do they? This one had cultivators mounted and has two hydraulic cylinders on the rear for that. I guess it would be possible to change those to remotes.

I'm not too terribly opposed to a JD either. One of the big 2 cyl older ones. The neighbors would all love that since this is green country but I'd really rather stick to farmall if anyone has a suggestion which one to get. I'm not having much luck looking around right now.

in jd you could look at 730 not sure you would go back to that vintage,2155,2150 a bit smaller though,2555,3010,3020. in the ih variety maybe a 564,656,666,706. i also wouldn't count out any of the older fords either say 5610,5000,6000,4610. imo i would try to stay in the 70's through 80's or 90's vintage for what your looking for as parts availibility is still great. most dealers will have parts in stock for the jd or fords. although the ih maybe a bit harder to come by parts wise , napa maybe able to get some of the parts. good luck.

I've got a '79 2440 Deere (60hp pto) that'll handle the chores you describe. Good tractor, just not very mizerly with the fuel compared to other tractors it's size. I WISH it were a 2640 (70hp) The 3020 was an EXCELLENT 70 hp tractor. The down side to buying a Deere is the upside come time to sell. PRICE.

Best buys in 60 to 70 hp "older" tractors are, IMHO, IH 706/756, Ford 5000/5600, MF180/185, 275, 285, 1085, Oliver 1650/1655, Allis Chalmers 180,

Never had any issues with parts for IH, Ford MF (anything "AGCO" for that matter) Look at local dealer(s) as far as what brands may have the best local support.

I'd look for an old Case 830 or equivalent (64 hp pto). About $3K. A neighbor has one that he uses to pull a moco and a large IH baler. I'd pass on one with the Case-o-matic transmission.

I know Zetor has let go of the US market because their focus is on Europe, untill they have earned enough money to create a dense grid dealer network in USA.
Parts availabilty, Ridgeway enterprises sends grey import parts overnight.

However in Holland, they are very popular at farmers have the same problem as you: they were getting SICK of all the electrical breakdowns of their fancy tractors.
There are 2 LARGE dairy operations, who both traded up against a Zetor: A Fendt 514 ( 140 hp 4 step powershift, all electric gizmos and front axle suspension) for a rather basic Zetor 12441 with a 3 step powershift with all mechanical engine and transmission controls: the only thing electric is the (very basic) EHR 3pt lift control.
This farm had Fendts for 40 years, and has the dealer within a mile next door.
They chose to buy 25 km away at a Zetor dealer, because they got fed up of the extreme repair costs, like buying new transmission circuit boards of 3000 Euro, every 2 years.
These Zetors have enough creature comforts as the market requires these days, but they dont have gizmos nobody needs and just add to the maintenance bill.

They still comply to TIER 3 with a time-proven, inline mechanical controlled injection pump, while maintaining the top 2 position in torque backup (35 to 45%) and fuel economy.

Thats the reason that Deere sold them as 2100 to 2800 series models, in south europe and south america. They even assembled Zetor tractors in their Mexican plant, for the local market. ;)

If you do look for a 1980's Zetor, keep a master cylinder of clutch and brake on the shelf. The factory ones (PAL brand) werent too good, and were replaced by ones from a different subcontractor (fragokov).

About using an old tractor: I have used a 2011 2 cylinder for a while for haymaking, with no live PTO and an oil pump on the PTO clutch, no powersteering etcetera...
It is fun to go back in time with this little red 1965 lovebug, but after one season, you rather pick the 5245 with cab, less noise, independent PTO and power steering.

Its not the force of turning the wheel that makes you tired, its the vibrations in the steering wheel, of tractors without powersteering, that cause fatigue at the end of the day.
