Dealers have stated that it is normal for the hydro shifting to be finicky,
both the jd 4066 and NX6010 sometimes required a little extra effort to shift
between, low, medium and high when I was test drove them.

Thank you

You are stopped when doing it right? It isn't that uncommon to have to try a time or two but it isn't every time; should be rare.

Having purchase two new HST's;I found them to be a little "stiff" when new but get easier after broken in.

It is for kubota's too... just have to release the pressure on the selector. Rocking steering wheel back and forth works most of the time.

IMHO, it is very normal. If I understand correctly, the different ranges are selecting different GEAR sets and those are straight-cut gears without synchronizer rings. So it is normal to have to jiggle the selector lever, double clutch, bump the HST pedal, roll the tractor an inch or two, or ALL of the above to change range. It generally DOES loosen up just a bit with break-in, but my Kubota with about 600 hrs is still sometimes balky. What I find helpful is to fairly forcefully shift all the way from H to M to L, back and forth a few times, with the clutch IN (disengaged), stopping where you want it.

I agree with everything except what clutch are you talking about? It's a HST, there is no clutch.

My tractor was much more difficult to select ranges when new. I never use high, only low or medium. I have a Neutral selection between low and medium. I still have a hard time keeping it from bypassing the Medium selection and popping into High, but overall it does shift much smoother after a couple hundred hours.

Have neighbors that bought a new 4052 HST about 6 months ago. Never been on a tractor before. We have discussed a lot of things in helping them to enjoy their new farm but never has hydro shifting or operating come up as a problem. On things in general working better after a little run in, I totally agree. Hard to get used to when you are used to sloppy performance from old worn out tractors.......but it can be done. Grin....BTDT

Very normal. Usually you can bump the HST treadle or pedal and then try again and it will be easier.

My Kubota 2320 HST has a clutch.
