Hi, thanks for any help I can receive.
I have 75 very hilly acres and I'd like a tractor that has the strongest, heaviest frame in this class. When looking at brochures, everyone seems to weigh their tractor a different way. Kubota's seem to be on the light side and Montana's seem to be low and wide which would be good for my hills but some of the persons in your groups have had bad experiences and say, "stay away" (only 5 years old). I'm upgrading from a 20yr old JD-850 that's been unbelievably reliable. I'm not very mechanically inclined and I'd like to keep that reliability and stay out of the dealer's garage.
Thanks again for any help.

Check out Kioti...Look at either the DK35SE (38hp) and the DK40SE (41hp)
They also have a 4 year warranty.

Mahindra is also one to check. You may also check out some of the new JD line too. May surprise you.

take a look at the Kubota 4400, the new utility series from Mahindra and Massey Ferguson, the TN series from New Holland, and the new 5003 series from JD. i have a JD 950 and i am also looking to take a step up in hp. although i want to double it from my current 27hp tractor to somewhere between 50-65hp.

Are not Montana's basically a rebadged version of another basic tractor line that has been in existence for some time??

Other than that no experience/knowledge with Montana.

If your previous tractor served you well another of same line may also serve you well.:D

Define "very hilly". Do you mean lotsa low, rolling hills, or very steep hills or both?

Are you only mowing, or do you plan to till with your tractor?

Are you going to tractor all 75 acres? If so, 45hp seems to be too small.

I agree if your going to tractor all the land a 45 horse is too small. I have a Mahindra and they are an excellent tractor. I have had mine for two years and have not turned the first wrench on it (besides the normal prevenative maintenance). If you are looking for a reliable tractor that you can keep out of the dealers garage, them Mahindra is for you. If you want somwhere around the 40 horse range, get the 4110.

Same questions, and some others:

Why do you want the heaviest frame? Are you concerned about stability or breaking the frame? Kubotas usually are the lightest and I've never heard of one breaking a frame. Weight and strength don't always go hand in hand.

For stability, axle width is at least as important as weight. You want something with adjustable axles that can be set really wide. This will often force you into R1 tires (ag tires). Filling the tires or getting wheel weights also helps stability. A Kubota with filled tires and the axles set wide is going to be more stable than a Mahindra with air in the tires and the axles set narrow.

Why that exact hp range? What is the planned task? You would be right at the bottom end of the utility class, which is usually built more heavily (both weight and strength) and with an engine designed for more constant running at full power. If you can give up some neato features, a utility may cost the same or less than a large CUT in that hp range.

I agree with the general suggestions of what to look at, but I think narrowing your goals and uses will help a lot in choosing what to look for. Also, this isn't meant to be pushing Kubota; I'm a JD owner and planning to stay that way, but Kubota was a good one for the weight example.

I mow about 20 acres some steep some rolling not much level. The other 50 or so acres is woods. I have 4WD and must have it on my new tractor. I want a FEL something I don't have now.I think my JD850 is to small for a FEL. I only till about 3/4 an acre. Thanks
