I have a jd4310 and looking for a 6ft rotary mower. I will be using it to cut only tall grass so a medium duty should be fine. I have another tractor and mower for mowing brush so i dont wont to spend much money. Any suggestions on what brands would hold up well over the years?

Several folks here recommended King Kutter for the "bang/buck" ratio so that's what I got. Can't comment on the long term, but I've been happy with it so far.

King Kutter seems to be the most often recommended low cost cutter here on the board. I have a 6' Howse that I bought 3 years ago and have been very happy with. Howse has 4 grades, light, medium, medium-heavy, and heavy.

Tall grass + JD4310 PTO hp = 5' rotary cutter for best results

most any MD rotary cutter (worth their salt) DOES NOT = low cost... (as in regular duty)

tall grassy products = regular duty rotary cutter = lowest cost...

I agree with John, 5 ft would be a better match to that tractor in terms of safety and capacity--Prices should run no more than $500-$600 for good standard duty 5 ft. cutter--Ken Sweet

I'm with Johnmiller on this one. Go with a 5ft mower. Tall heavy grass is easy on the mower, but hard on the tractor. Tall grass is more hp robbing than anything you will encounter.
Heavy brush, stumps and such are hard on the mower tim wear, but is easy on the tractor, providing that you have the slip clutch or proper shear pins enstalled properly.

OK. Looks like I am going against the flow here. I have a JD 950 with 27 PTO hp, which I believe is very nearly what the 4310 has. I can generally mow my pasture running in 2 high, or even 3 high if the grass is not too high. It is true that if I let it get a foot or so tall and if it is really green and heavy, I do have to slow down to 1H, or even 4L if it is too bad. However, the time mowing slower than 2H is probably less than 10%. Having the extra foot during the other 90% really shortens my mowing time.
As was mentioned, tall, heavy, green grass is the main problem. Brush is not a problem. When I first bought the property, there was weeds taller than the hood of the tractor. I mowed thru those in 2H with no problem. But those were weeds so tall they had smothered out the grass.
