Looking at older high end Murray Walk Behind

OK, I need a self propeled walk behind with rearwheel drive for my very hilly 1/2 are around my house in New Hampshire. I found a dealer selling a traded in high end Murray walk behind it has a OHV Kawasaki engine it can mulch, discharge or bag. Has a three speed rear wheel drive system. Stamped steel deck, Mech. says got it on trade it is a mid 90's unit and wants $100. What do you guys think?

I've never been a big murry fan but the kawasaki motor is probably worth a 100 bucks. I'd say if it's halfway decent then you'll probably be ok. the kawasaki on my JX75 is 8 years old and still runnin like a champ.

That is what I was thinking. But also thinking that now that B&S owns Murry how am I going to get parts forthis unit? I am too a lover of Suzuki, Honda and Kawi. engines in outdoor equipment. Can repair shops get parts for Kawi and Suzuki on engine #'s alone? Anyone ever heard of a Murray all option out like this with Kawi power?

For us anyway it has been no problem getting parts for Murry machines. I haven't had any problems getting kawasaki parts either. You can go to your local JD dealer and get your kawasaki stuff. They have been using those engines for over 2 decades. I can't say I've ever heard of Murry having a Kawasaki/Honda/Suzuki engine. When Murry made the sears w/b mowers they used to use a Honda in some aplications. You usually don't see the them use Kawasaki because it is the most expesive motor out of all of them.

I guess if the drive and deck is good thebuy might be sound.

JUst spoke to the seller and he does not have the bagg for the unit. Says Murray should still sell it. How many think this is likly with the B&S transition?

Only one way to find out. Get the numbers off the mower and look it up or have a dealer look it up.

Well I bought it for $75, took it home called local dealer with model # and they replied "no longer avaliable" now what do I do!!

I never knew there was a Murray machine made that had Kawi power. For $100, if it runs good I'd say go for it. Parts for Murray machines are still available from quite a few sources. Briggs took over the assets of Murray corporation through the bankruptcy courts as Murray owed them quite a few millions. Briggs liquidated Murray's assets including repair parts, most of these parts you now see for sale on E-Bay or other internet sources.

I have the part #'s and I pluged them into Ebay. No luck now guess i just have to keep trying.
