my local dealer has L3240 2 wheel drive with FST transmission , my ? is how will it compare to the MF 2605 i am looking to replace . 2605 has 38 hp and is also 2 wheel drive. i mainly use for yard grading and light brush mowing, also he states tractor will run 5 ft. bushhog with the addition of 2 suitcase weights. my concern is going down in hp. btw i am new to this so i hope i am posting correctly, thanks for any advise you can give.

I'd go for 4x4. The slight loss in HP would end in a gain if you got 4x4. You may think that you can live without it, but once you get 4x4, you don't go back. See about making the same trade with a 4x4 and it would be well more than worth it:thumbsup:

Good luck!

If you really want a tractor that will last you, get the 3240 with 4x4, HST and a loader. I know that's all money now, but you'll end up upgrading to it later. I wouldn't get a compact without those three things.

sounds like i need to go with the 4 wheel drive , can't argue with experience, as you often hear price was the driving force behind looking at 2 wheel drive , they where offering very good deal to move off lot , i have also looked at the regular L series but have read there is no comparson to the grand series , thanks for the advise ( btw he offered 2 wheel drive at what he claimed was wholesale $12500.00 )

$12.5k is a very good deal. But you have to figure that's under what he could get for a 4x4 BX sized tractor, and no one has bought it yet. The 2x4 drops the value a lot, in resale as well. If all you needed was PTO power running a mower, it would do it fine, but doing any sort of ground engaging work, 4x4 is the way to go. Costs more up front, but you'll get a lot more in resale and a lot more work out of it.

The regular L's still are nice machines. And without looking at HST anyway your not loosing the HST+, the main reason I would think people would want the GL. There are a couple more comfort options and the new L series is very nice, worth a thought.

:D Stick around and we'll spend your money... give it more time and I'm sure we can talk you into a MX5100!!!

Why are you replacing the MF 2605? I would agree with the other about getting 4x4.

4x4 is nice but have you ever had a place where your 2wd tractor had issues? If not then it could be an added expense. That being said do you think that in the future you may want to do more with the tractor, then having 4wd will pay off.

The price seams good but remember that's a 2wd and unless I missed it I didn't read that it includes a loader. If he's having to sell it cheap that also means if you ever want to upgrade you'll be doing the same. If you keep the tractor for a few years, it'll be costly, if you keep it for a long time then not so much.

But the real advantage of the Grand L tractors is the HST+ transmission. It's like buying a BMW and then getting a stripped down basic car with none of the features that sets it apart from the other cars.

teg , i am having alot of minor issues with the 2605, mainly the turnbuckle/chain style anti-sway, in my opinion it is poorly designed, and constanly bending pins and breaking links, and other issues that i realize are minor but makes me think the tractor is not going to be dependable for the long run, and crazyal i do run other equipment ( jd 110 tlb , cat 247 ) so i can get by with 2 wheel drive and use the others as backup but in reading all the replies i may attempt to sell the 2605 and look for good used 4 wheel drive. of course the 0% for 48 is inviting but not in position at this time to consider the higher priced tractor, thanks for all the input
