Much to my surprise, I've stumbled across a 2000 TC33D with a 7308 FEL that has only 140 hours and is in nearly perfect condition. The "story" behind it checks out - it just didn't get used a lot.

Now we've been shopping around for a JD or NH in that size range for a while, but "deals" were few and far between. New a little too pricey; used often too beat up.

What in particular should I look at when I go to "inspect" this gem? (Priced at $12,500)

I ran acros a similiar "deal" on a "cherry" 1720 with only 245 hours. Check out why the person let the unit go. My 1720 was a local trade in on a larger Kubota. Not one thing wrong with it. Knew the dealer personally. The unit had just been traded in. I gave 7G's plus my YM1700 in on the trade. Got a box blade too. I felt that the tractor was worth 9G's straight up here in this market. That's a really good price on the 33. Around here she would not last very long. That's why I jumped on the 1720. I bought the 1720 on Saturday. My Yanmar was sold on Monday. If I was you and she checked out I would jump on it.

There have been some issues with the lines to the oil cooler leaking, but there is a recall or repair kit out that fixes it. Other than that, the things are really nice machines. See if the lines to the cooler are metal or rubber. If rubber, ask the dealer to through in the update and see what happens.

Thanks for the inputs. I'll definitely eyeball the oil cooler lines.

I haven't heard anything really bad about the 33's -- I know you jump up in frame size with a 35. We have a horse barn that I want to be comfortable manuevering in. Otherwise, it'll be used for managing the manure pile and bush hogging around our 17 acres.

While looking at the cooler lines, be sure to check the condition of the raditator(sp). Look for any damage that might have been done by battery fumes and possible overflow. Had a real nice 33d, great tractor.

It's a repair kit ($100), not a recall. If there are rubber elbows connected directly to the hydraulic cooler, the kit has not been installed. If there are short sections of straight rubber tubing, it has.

I agree with daTeacha, get the dealer to install the kit before buying the tractor. Also get them to install an Optima battery. The poor design on the hydraulic lines and the battery are the only major problems on the old Class II Boomers. (I have a TC25D)

Other minor issues...

  1. Throttle control that doesn't stay put. (remove trim below dash, remove nut where the throttle handle pivots, add thread locker, replace nut and tighten, replace trim)
  2. Failed steering wheel shock absorber (the one that allows the column to be adjusted up and down) might need to be replaced.
  3. Fogged instrument panel. (Replace)
  4. Ignition switch. (Replace)

MikePA hit the nail on the head. He said all of the things I would have said. Those are the only issues I have had.

None of the above things would stop me from buying that tractor if you think the price is right. Them above things are all minor and nothing major.
