hey guys, new to the forum(TBN), and was looking into a 5045E, brand new. I talked with a couple of dealers and have gotten a few quotes. The best is the 2010 JD5045E for $19,000.00, the JD 553 FEL for $4,900.00, which comes to a total of $23,900.00. Is this inline. I am first time tractor buyer, and have looked around but just wanted to hear your thoughts. I also can get 0% for 60 months through JD credit.

I plan to use this tractor for some mowing, post hole digging, grading and scraping my 1/4 driveway. I have a couple of spots that will need alot od dirt and after i get it good and level i would like to add gravel. Do you think that this will work for my setup.

I have a 6.5"X16" trailer with two 3500# axles under it, rated at 7,000 pounds total capacity. I dont have the exact specs on the width of the tractor, hopefully it will fit. I have access to a 7"X20" lowboy trailer but its my grandfather's. i will not be hauling this thing much. i f anyone has the width of this tractor i would appreciate the figures.

Not really informed about the pricing structure of the 5E series but your price seems fair to me. On this series it may be hard to get more than 10% or so off of msrp. Since the msrp is roughly $22,300 for this tractor quoted $19,000 seems to be okay.

Your 7000# trailer is too short and too light to move this tractor, borrow the larger trailer. Moving this tractor with an implement or two will require a 20ft 12,000lb. trailer to do it right. The smallest trailer I would consider would be an 18ft. 10,000lb. Remember to deduct the weight of the trailer from the 7000 lb capacity about 2000 lbs roughly. My 12,000lb 20ft trailer weighs about 2700 lbs with spare tire and chains allowing a payload of 9300 lbs.

A little more info about your jobs to be done such as acreage to mow, how much time spent grading, will allow more of us to help select the right tractor.

Luke,
I agree with Steve on the trailer. Your 7000# gross is too small and light. My 3120 barely fits on my 18' 10,000 # gross trailer with the loader and blade. If you get the rears loaded, you will be over weight too.

Thanks guys. Yeah the trailer is used for other things. I dont plan on using it to move the tractor anywhere else though. I will borrow my grandfather's trailer though. My dad has a 20 ft lowboy i could borrow as well, but G's is in better shape.

I plan on mowing around fence rows and a few open pastures, probably about 20 acres in both if the water is at normal levels(wet farm). I plan on running a fence around my 2.5 acre yard, I already have a post auger from my old Ford 7000. I also have a 6 ft mower and an 8 ft disc harrow. I also have a 10 ft IH grain drill, and a set of 2 row Covington planters. I have alot of dirt to move and a driveway that is about 1/4 of a mile long that will need grading and I also plan to add gravel to it. I have some trees around my pond to pull up(they are small trees, been pulling them up with my Chevy 4X4), and I plan to use the tractor push some brush piles up.

I have checked around for prices, and other makes and models. It seems that I will benefit more to buy a new tractor vs a used one, as far as price and financing goes.
