JD 2030
Ok, first post here so I hope I'm in the right section.
1998 JD 5210, 2wd, 9 speed sync transmission, w/520 loader, about 2500 hours, $14,000.
A little background on usage-
My 60 acres of land is flat and I have most of it in CRP grasses. Will use it to mow fire breaks with my 6' finish mower, plant a couple of 2 acre food plots in spring.
Hope to pull my 10' disc, an 8' drill (both hydraulic lift) and some occasional loader work, and maybe even move some snow once in a while. Mostly just doing some habitat work and an occasional project.
I have a JD 2030 which does everything fine (no loader, which I want to play with) but it's at my other parcel 20 miles away. OK, I want another tractor to be honest,,,ha.
Are these 5210's any good or do they have a bad history.
Any history or experience will be appreciated.
Thank you.

I have owned a 5210 for 7 years and have been very happy with it. Here is a link to the operators manual for the 5210 and 520. While I do not do much loader work, I am glad I have 4WD, I do think that could be said for any tractor that has a loader.

The engine has been around for some time, but is a little on the noisy side. Mine always starts with the just the flick of the key. Make sure you get the parking stands for the loader. With that many hours, I would check and see how much play is left in the clutch, the manual shows how to do that.

Make sure everything works on the cluster and see if there is signs that condensation has occurred on the inside of the glass as this leads to water getting into the cluster.

I do not have experience with the disc; maybe others can help you with that.

If you have not already take a look at tractorhouse.com, machinefinder.com and fastline.com on price.

Thanks JD5210 for the insight. I did purchase the tractor. I bought it from a dealer, but was able to talk to the original owner. They had purchased it new for their pine tree farm. They always stored it inside and said they never had any problems with it. They bought a larger 75 hp. with a cab and traded this one in on it. I did test drive it and everything seemed fine. Now I'm just anxious for spring and a chance to play.
Thanks again,
Tom
