This is my first post, and it's a pricing question...
I would prefer to hang out and read instead of just jumping in but I'm in a
little bit of a dilemma!
I've been looking at tractors with a FEL on and off for a while now, and while
I'd love to buy new it looks like used is going to be in my price range.
First off, you'll have to excuse my ignorance. This will be my first tractor
purchase and I'm very much a newbie!
Right now I'm looking at a TC29 (00' model) 4WD with a 7308 loader. It is a trade in at a dealership. It also has a hydrostatic trans.
The tractor has 1700 hours and looks like it has been worked. The tractor
was on the lot in 40deg weather and was a little balking starting. Once it
was running it sounded "good", not too rattly. The finish is dulled like
it has spent most of its life outside. I drove it around the lot, forward and
reverse and in the different gears. That seemed OK. The bucket would lift
the front end off the ground. There don't appear to be any leaks. There is
one new front tire and the other tires are Ag tires that have rounded edges but still deep tread.
The biggest problems with the tractor is all the loader pins seemed loose. Looking at the loader bushings it doesn't look like the previous owner knew what a grease gun was.
The engine oil was very black and there was not any oil touching the front axle dipstick.
The other problem was the steering column would not lock in any position. I had a chance to talk to the previous owner and he said that there is some kind of interconnect between the throttle and forward/reverse pedal that did not work either. He said he had traded it on a larger tractor because the 29
would not pull his 6ft bush hog very well, but he had been using it for
that purpose as long as he had owned it (he bought it new) anyway.
So, long story short, the dealership was asking 8,600 and I've talked them down to 8,000. I've got 14 acres that is mostly pasture with about 5 acres or so in woods. My primary needs are bushhoging and grading a long gravel driveway. I also need to move around some dirt on occasion, hence the FEL.
I live in central NC.
I hope I have provided enough info to get at least some idea of good deal/bad deal!!
