Look what I found this weekend

I have been slowly doing my 50hr maintenance and inspecting the tractor, lookie what I found. Left and right side boots are shot on the steering, right side is really beat. Second 2 pics are the HST filter which has a definate deformation at the bottom of the filter see pics.

1st do I need to replace both rod ends?

2nd what could have caused the damage to the HST filter? Is it common? Should I be concerned?

I'll finish my 50hr service during the week and doing a filter-ectomy to assess the damage.

I think i would be calling my dealer.50 hours should have lots warranty left.
Very unusual for tie rod ends to have that kind of wear.Good luck. Framer

Bought it in feb. this year. I've been getting allot of work done and there is allot still to do. What about the filter deformation on the HST filter? I was surprised.

Do you have a picture of the outside of the HST filter?

What would be the make and model?
I also inform dealer,if you can show the dealer filter and pics of the boots so it's on there records.

It's just the boots is it not? The tie rod ends are still nice and tight I would assume.

In the past I have used black electrical tape to wrap up tie rod end boots. It seemed to work??

Those grease boots are out in the elements and can be beat up easily, you've got a bit of caked dirt around it in the first picture. I'd ask for new boots and keep em full of grease..

The filter is an unknown, could a' been like that when installed, but I'd replace it and cut it open to make sure there isn't a chunk of metal in it. No abnormal debris..most likely no problem.

Do you have a picture of the outside of the HST filter?

The outside of the filter was smooth and unremarkable so I have not taken a pic of the outside of the filter.

This is on my CK25HST. The rod ends are not grease-able and there is no sign of grease in them. If I can replace the boots I will do the repair in my garage. If I need whole new rod ends I will do that in my garage as well more then likely. It's more cost effective to do smaller repairs at home then to bother hauling it to the dealer.

The boot rippage is very normal. Mine have been ripped since very early on and I worried about it enough to buy a new rod end but never installed it since the joint never got loose. From what I've been told, these boots are a standard size that is available at the local auto parts store cheap. Unless you plan to stop using your machine the same way, the new ones will just rip again. Pretty soon you will bend your tie rod too since that hangs down in harms way just like the rod ends.

The filter being internally damaged is a new one. Mine have been severely damaged on the outside but never on the inside only. Was this the big grey filter that hangs down or the orange one up by your heel? Regardless, put a new one on and refill. I would pull apart the old one just to see if there is a big chunk of metal in there but I don't think you'll find anything.

It's the orange HST filter by your right heel. I already have a new one on and its full of oil already. I still need to change the engine oil and grease it up.
