2004 Long Agribusiness LGT 680
I recently "inherited" a Long Agribusiness LGT 680 diesel tractor, and I'm in a bit over my head. The previous owner left it outside in the weather and did not take very good care of it. I have had a new battery and some electrical work done on the tractor, and it was working great for a while. This weekend when I went out to use it, I went to turn the starter switch and the lever snapped right off. I started it with a wrench (shown in this video:
) in order to move it back into the barn, and ordered a new starter switch off Amazon (Amazon.com: Ignition Switch TX10954 Fits Long Tractor 2360DTC 460DT 510DT Universal Tractor 1033 320 White Oliver Tractor : Automotive). When I took the starter switch off, I made sure I took pictures and videos of where all the cables were connected. The replacement starter switch came in today, and I hooked it up. When I try to start the tractor now, it cranks but will not turn over. I even tried the wrench method again, and it didn't work. I'm not very mechanically inclined, so I'm not sure what the issue is. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you all.

I'm guessing your tractor has a fuel solenoid, it is likely not being energized.
When you say it cranks do you mean the starter is engaging and rotating the engine, but it's not starting?
Something is likely miss wired on your switch.

Yes, it is engaging and rotating the engine, but that is it.

If something was miswired, wouldn't it still start if I used the wrench like it's shown in the video? I started it the other day with that method with the starter switch completely removed and no wires connected at all.

What manner of engine stop do you have?
Is it electrical from your switch or mechanical a cable or rod.

If it turns off with the switch you have an electrical solenoid that is activating a fuel cutoff.

When you started it with the wrench and had no wires connected how did you stop the engine?

I’m gonna apologize in advance if I can’t answer your questions very well. This is all pretty new to me

There is an ignition switch and a starter switch. The ignition switch is a key that turns on gauges and lights, but the starter switch is the part I linked in the original post. It is a lever that moves clockwise/counter clockwise that starts the engine.

When I stop the engine, there is a rod that I pull that kills it.

OK, not a problem. That means no fuel solenoid involved.
Not trying to be mean or anything but did you push that rod in when you tried to start it.
Did it get tweaked or knocked loose while you worked on the starter switch.
If the engine is turning over like normal and she isn't starting it would normally be no fuel.

Haha no worries! I did push it back in, but now that I’m thinking about it, I may have jostled it a bit when I was getting in and out of the tractor the other day. I did put more fuel in it hoping that would solve the issue, but it did not. I will look at that rod tomorrow morning.

I made sure the rod was pushed in and tried it again this morning, but I'm still having the same issue. The engine spins when I try to start it, but it's not turning over and running. Any other ideas?

Crack open the lines after the injection pump, see if you are getting fuel when you crank it over.

The guy who I had do some work on the tractor came over this morning to help me out. All it took was some starter fluid after all that. Thank you so much for your help!
