So, everything I've done so far to my tractor: replaced the alternator(used it for a few months so I know it works and was wired correctly). Now I've installed a new wiring harness, gauge cluster with the wiring associated with them. Replaced the fuse box with a used one and new fuses. I've installed the wiring harness by following the wiring harness diagram, and now when I turn the keyed ignition to any of the on positions the voltage regulator will start smoking within about 30 seconds(without ever attempting to start the engine). Also it is my understanding that the alternator charging light should turn on when the engine isn't running and the ignition is turned on, then it should turn off once the engine is running and the alternator is charging the battery(the alternator charging light never turns on). Does anyone have experience with the voltage regulator on these tractors? Also I have two used regulators(one originally on the tractor and a used spare regulator and both do the same sequence of smoking after ignition is turned on). If anyone is electric savvy or has some pointers it would be much appreciated.

Sir if you know the alternator is connected properly then do not mess with it. Now the start switch and voltage regulator are in question. And there may be some markings on the voltage regulator terminal that would correspond with the start switch and the alternator. And with the color coating of the new wiring harness maybe you can connect everything up properly. My friend this is the best I can do from where I am
