Hi I have made a log splitter to operate on the hydraulics of a case 885xl. The valve chest is giving me a bit of trouble. There is an in and and out port and two ports to connect to the hydraulic cylinder, two other ports are not being used. When I connect the tractor hydraulics to the valve chest the pressure just builds up, the oil appears not to flow through the chest. When I pull the lever the cylinder will operate in both directions. Is there anything I can adjust on the valve chest to get the oil to flow through it

thanks for any help

Is that a closed center log splitter valve. No flow in neutral.

If your tractor is open center hyd, then you need an open center log splitter valve.

Is the valve convertible?

What is the brand and model number?

Hi JJ
I think it must be closed centre as there is no flow through it when in neutral.
yes tractor is open centre.

dont know if it is convertible. I attach some photos, maybe you would know by these?

There does not appear to be a brand on it. It says made in USA. the numbers on it are as follows:

B2-127
30812-20
30512-AAJ
AW 20889

I googled it and it appears to be Cessna

thanks for help. Should have mentioned at start dont know much about hydraulics.

The valve does not appear to be open center.

To check if open center, take the OUT/return hose from reservoir and place the end in a clean bucket. and start tractor.

If there is no flow in neutral , then the valve is closed center, and will activate the tractor relief valve. If you keep the splitter plugged in, the tractor relief will squeal, and the fluid will heat up.

You will have fluid coming out the return hose when operating the cyl, that is the cyl expended fluid.

You need a basic log splitter valve such as this one.

I doubt the valve can be converted. It looks to be a one piece casting.

Perhaps a good machinist could bore some holes in the correct location if he knew what the inside galleries looked like , etc, but not practical in terms of cost, etc.
