I have 3-4 coats of stain on my log house but never used a sealer. I now have mold showing up. My plan is to power wash it with a cleaner but need to use a sealer when dry. Looking for a clear sealer, most come as a stain and sealer and I don't need that. Thinking about using a polyurethane with UV protection. Ideas.

we power washed our log sided house and brushed on a nice coat of Olympic clear sealer from Lowes. That was last year, seems to be holding up good.

Just Google Log Home sealers, theres plenty of distributers in the US,
Some can get expensive. Cabot clear sealer is a good one Think Home Depot has it. Just so you know I build 3-4 log cabins a year, i have a little knowalage

I don't know if the stuff is clear, but the last time I painted my house, I had Home Depot put a double dose of their mildew killer in the paint. It used to get mold on the outside after ~2 years. This stuff kept the mold off for 4 years and was still going strong when the house burned up.

Sikkens or Woodgaurd both work pretty well. The Woodguard has a mold inhibitor in it.

I researched the same thing for my new log home. I wound up deciding on Wood Guard. It is the only oil-based transparent treatment that is VOC compliant in NY. It has great wood nourishing qualities, curing in a liquid, flexible state and thus allowing the wood to breathe properly. It has a UV blockers, and Copper-8-Quinolinolate to control mildew, fungis and insects. It seems to repel carpenter bees nicely. It comes in clear, and you can add tint, or not. I added one level of tint for my first application, and plan to give it a second clear coat next year. It went on dark, and lightened up when it cured.

I agree with using woodguard, I've had friends use sealers, and when they break down you have to blast them off with a corn cob blaster before you re-apply. I used woodguard, no mold, and you re-apply right over the old coat, no prep required.:D

I have been down this road several times. My preferred plan of action is to use a dilution of bleach/water (1 to 5 ratio) in a garden type sprayer and spray down the house and let it sit overnight. The next day pressure wash it and it will look like new. Let dry for several days and apply new sealer. This process has never failed me over the last 20+ yrs.
The days of heavy oil based sealers are gone and finding a long lasting quality product is more difficult than it was 20 yrs ago. I would go with Wood Guard.
