I purchased a ck2610. After a year of use, my front axle started locking up. I was mowing (in 2wd) one day, pulling off the lawn on to the driveway and all of the sudden, bang, I almost went through the windshield. I tried backing up and then going forward and it broke loose. It has happened to me 5 times over the coarse of the summer. The dealership finally came and took the tractor October 10th, and they have had it ever since. Has anyone else had this happen?

My Branson had similar symptoms and the problem was the front axle input shaft bearings were improperly adjusted and destroyed the casting. The shaft would randomly lock the gears solid. Dealer replaced the complete front axle assembly since it was full of debris

good luck on getting this resolved

I have a similar problem that I finally got around to tearing things apart and i believe i have found my problem but need a second or third opinion. My left front wheel would lock up about every four feet forward. I think the bearing on the bevel gear cover is bad, it is the one that is under the gear. When I removed the cover there was a lot of play in the bevel gear and housing cover. I can see on the gear case some significant rubbing. I will try and attach a picture. Im thinking to remove the bevel gear I have to remove the bearing holding it in place. this is where I need help affirming what i think. I think the rubbing is what was causing the wheel to lock up, I also heard metal on metal when i rotated the wheel backwards

prior to removing and once i had it removed and rotated the wheel on the right side that sound was no longer present. In the picture you can see where it had rubbed in the upper corner and it also rubbed down near the bevel gear shaft.Bevel gear.jpg

I wonder if the back of the large bevel gear has a casting defect that is allowing the back side to rub that path into the cast housing?
Could also be that the large bevel gear was machined incorrectly and it is setting back a few mills deeper than design drawings would suggest.

Thanks. The dealership finally has it in the shop after almost a month. I will stop later this week and hopefully find out what they found.
