Hello, own a X730 and having lots of problems keeping the Mower Deck wheels spinning freely, plenty of clearance when the deck is down so not in constant contact (as they should be), they just keep locking-up then dig-in to the lawn. I do keep them lubed with the JD synthetic grease, perhaps there's an alternative design out there.

Is this the front gauge wheels digging in when turning or the wheels themselves stop turning?

If front digging in when turning try running them one hole higher than the rears. That stopped that problem on my X540 with 54” deck.

oldnslo, Thanks for the response, I've pulled them off 3 times now, injected them with WD40, manhandled on a vice to get them free and also re-lubed with synthetic but I keep going back to the lock state. The wheels are high enough but occasionally they do hit the ground (as designed to do) and because they don't spin the dig happens. I'm looking for some replacement wheels, but I see JD only sells the whole kit, pretty $$$$$.

I take it that the wheels that you have do not have bearings in them. Here is a part that appears to be compatible with your machine. Pricy but with bearings:

Off the wall thought but…..Is the lube the problem? Just wondering if the lube is possibly causing the plastic wheels to swell or collect dirt and then seize. My mower probably has similar wheels and they have never been lubed. Original owner had one of 519 carts that wore out the right rear from carrying all the blower weight but none of them seized.

I too suspect the grease is the problem, if the wheels are assembled correctly. Clean them up so they are free of grease and assemble dry.

If that solves the problem, let us know back.
