Locke Warm Morning Coal Stove Model 617-****

Does anyone have one of these stoves? I recently picked one up for free and installed it in the boiler room of the old farm I'm restoring to burn off the 2 tons of coal I have in coal bins. I think I have the stove figured out. I want to make sure I'm running it correctly. There is a damper door on the ash pan door on the bottom. I leave this open slightly for air to run the stove. There is also a sliding door on the upper loading door. I leave this door closed while running. Does anyone have a manual for one of the Warm Morning Stoves?

The upper sliding door is a draft control for burning wood. the lower draft control is for burning coal.
With a wood fire you need the draft to go over the wood to burn the gases. it is more efficient. With coal you need the draft to come from under the grates in order to keep the coal burning efficiently. hope the answers your question. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks for the information regarding the upper vs lower draft. I have been burning wood by regulating the lower draft. I will switch and use the upper draft. I have a Model 112-A (Patent No. 2.255.527) that is probably similar to the Model 617. Paid $100 for the stove in 1986. Great investment.

The upper slide damper, can be used to further dampen the stove off. Opening it, will allow the air to enter over the coal, rather than coming up through the coal.

We had a Warm Morning Coal Stove in the early to mid-60's. Good stove. It could really warm up the room that it was in, sometimes too hot, especially when you filled up the coal or wood in order that the fire would not go out overnight.:tractor::tractor:
