Tractor
1975 John Deere 2030
I just bought a 1975 JD 2030 with a loader. I can not find any info on the loader as far as brand or model. The problem I have is that the loader will not lift the tractor off the ground or even lift a full bucket of gravel. When I lower the loader, it acts almost as if it getting in a bind, and then it will change directions and start going back up. If I put the bucket flat on the ground and then curl it, it will lift the loader not the tractor. The cylinders are not holding it down. I'm not sure if it is a hydraulic supply problem or a problem with the loader itself. I also get some chatter in one of the hydraulic lines. The fluid was pretty milky so I changed the fluid, filter, and cleaned the screen filter. I will get a pressure gauge tomorrow so I can test the pressure at the breakaway couplers and give me an idea on the supply pressure. This is my first tractor and I don't know much about them yet. Got a couple of manuals to get started.

Sounds to me like you are simply low on fluid. Have you checked it after changing it? You also say it was milky which usually means that the fluid had water in it. If that is the case, there might be damage to the internals because of rust etc.

Do you have a mid valve for the loader? Or do you have two rear valves (levers to right of the seat) that the loader is connected to?
I think you mean when you dump, not curl the bucket the loader lifts, not the front of the tractor. If using rear SCVs maybe the one for the boom was in float? Will your loader drop if left raised? How about the bucket, will it remain where you leave it or slowly dump?

My 2030 has the JD 245 loader. It has a mid valve with single lever (joystick). With the bucket on the ground, dumping easily raises the front of the tractor. Or if the bucket is on something high (like a brush pile) the boom cylinders will easily raise the tractor with down pressure. Or if the bucket is dumped while raised and the boom lowered it will raise the tractor until the boom cylinders are fully retracted.
