I've just seen the l4310 I ordered at the dealer's lot. All is as agreed upon, except it does not have a joystick as I ordered to work the 682 FEL. Looking at the hydraulic control arm on the bucket, it does not appear to be such a big deal. For those of you who have a joystick, does it get in the way on the fender? Is it much better than the hydraulic arm? I have little experience so far with an FEL, and need to know whether I should insist on having the Joystick installed.
Thanks.

Hi ya RedB
I don't know anything about the tractor you are talking about but FEL's and joysticks i use all the time i'll tell you how mine is set up to give you some idea ,my left hand works F/R and steering leaveing my right hand for gears and joystick (all are mounted on right hand side ) i find if the joystick is mounted so your right elbow resting on your seat arm the joystick is in hand range with out moveing .after a while it just falls in to place when working FEL. i have seen some bad set ups where people have to lean forward or strech arms to reach controls (alright for a few mins but gets tireing fast ) if you are planing to do heaps of loader work it pays to get it right frist time afew dealers forget that your joystick should be as eazy to work as the steering wheel ,gears and F/R
don't forget the golden rule "your paying the gold you make the rules"

I'm not following what you're saying.

Joystick on the fender?

Hydraulic control arm on the bucket?

The FEL control is an intergal part of the loader. It doesn't seem possible for it to be optional and I've never heard of it being mounted in a different place.

redb: if u ordered it and paid for it u should insist on it. is it better? i don't know! think being old and used to hydraulic arm, joystick would be hard for me to deal with. also not partial to anything on fender, just seems odd to me.appears tho if u ordered it , u thought it was a good option for u. so insist on it or get price adj. mho frank

The hydraulic control valve on my L3710 is mounted on the loader and stays with the loader when the loader is removed. I assume this is the same as your 4310. As you mentioned I believe there is an optional joystick mounted to the fender. The advantage of this arrangement is when the loader is removed (or hydraulics disconnected) the hydraulic control valve can then be used to run other hydraulics. (ie top and tilt, pull type implement which has a hydraulic cylinder etc.) If your tractor also has rear hydraulic outlets this may not be important. JD leaves the joystick with the tractor when the loader is removed and I believe this is an advantage. As someone else stated, the joystick attached to the fender is less tiring if the loader is used a lot. The fender mounted Kubota joystick costs more. You ordered it that way and I would insist on it. The joystick on my JD5300 is somewhat in the way when getting off on the right side but it is still less obtrusive than the handle sticking back on my hydraulic (loader-mounted) valve on my Kubota L3710. Again, you paid for it and I would insist on it.
