Have an LA401 loader on a B2710. Loader control (wand) worked well last fall. After refitting this spring the wand is not functioning as it should.
When moved to left (up-curl) it does not move to neutral by its self as it did last fall, and when manually moved to neutral the bucket slowly down-curls until it is manually stopped by moving the wand to the left again.
Checked and rechecked the connections and found no problems. I assume there is a spring somewhere in the system that allows the wand to reposition itself in neutral after each move (except for float).

Any suggestions or advice will be appreciated.

Thanks: Ed Haltenhoff (in Michigan's U.P.)

If your sure that you have put the right spring in the correct way, than try a little spray lub for that might help.

I to had somewhat of the same problem, and I spray the the unit and it loosen up.
It was do to being dirty, and every time I grease the tractor I make sure I sray the lever control.
Good luck and take care.

When I reinstalled the loader I simply hooked up the hydraulic hoses to the control wand mechanism according to their color codes. I saw no springs. I just assumed that a spring was involved in centering the wand and that it was the cause of the problem.
Where is the spring(s) that you refer to?

Thanks for your input and have a good day.

Hi Ed.
I take it you have a single lever control valve two spool?
With in your two spool unit you could have up to four springs.
Be very careful when taking relief cartridge apart and putting back together durning cleaning.
On my front loader the relief cartridge and spools have ports, but they have yet to plug up which is mostly cause from dirty hydraulic oil so I been told.

In the future when disconnecting your loader cover the ends of your connections with a plastic bag and rubber band which will help to keep any contamination from entering your hydraulic system.

Have you check your hydraulic fluid level?
Do you have a valve which might not be turn all the way open to your loader?
Try and spray your control valve where the spools are located with WD 40 etc.. that work handle back and forth than spray somemore.
Most of the time its really something very simple which is over look, and I would check manual for trouble shooting or call or stop by the dealer for information before taking any control valve components apart.

I would be most interested in your finding.
Take care and good luck.

The springs are inside the spool valves and should not be messed with unless you have the correct o-rings and stuff to put it back together properly.

There are no springs in the joystick control itself - the spool valves self-center and this centers the joystick.

Thanks for reminding me about installing the springs. I remember several posts about this on the old board.
My 50 hour service is an hour or so away. I'll probably take care of the springs when I do the service.

I will have to get a manual for the control as none came with the unit. I will look into the problem when I do my 50 hour service check in a week or so.
Thanks for your input.
