TC35D with 16LA Loader
Well this just hasn't been my week. Some of you might have seen my B plate problem. That's all fixed now. Today as I'm plowing snow a new problem has cropped up.

I have a TC35D with the 16LA loader. Here are the symptoms I have observed.

1. The joystick has little or no resistance pushing from neutral position to forward (pushing the loader boom downward - pulling back works normal). The joystick does not "spring back" to neutral position. On multiple occasions the joystick will flop forward which pushes the loader down and makes the front wheels come off the ground.

2. Float no longer works. When you push the joystick all the way forward the boom shakes and acts strange.

3. At one point the joystick got stuck and it would no longer go forward, consequently I could not make the boom go down. Note this is a joystick valve problem, I could not move the joystick forward it was jammed - I could still pull it backward.

Condition 3 happened just once. Conditions 1 & 2 are the norm right now. I have the service manuals. Can anyone help me isolate the problem so I can fix it? In all cases bucket curl works as normal.

Thanks,

Peter

Sounds to me like you may have something broken in the float detent and maybe floating around inside your valve or ???. I think it's time for disassembly and inspection. It should be simple by comparison to your B-plate job.

Thanks Jim,

I think you're right. There is also a part called a "stop cup" (part #12 on page 35-57 in the service manual). If that part broke then spring #11 could not exert any force to return the joystick back to neutral (upward). That could also jam up the float detent. For now I have a bungee cord lightly pulling the joystick back to neutral. At least I can push some snow around (6 hours seat time today but my driveway is now open). I sure hope they sell these parts individually. I saw that the whole valve is ~$700.

Right now with this cold it's hard not to admire a new TC45 with cab (although I don't want to think about replacing the B plate on that thing).

Here is a view of the driveway before I went to work on it (drifts are 3-4')

Peter

Peter, what you may find inside that lift spool is that it has taken on some water and rusted up to the extent that the return spring is binding and gummed up. I had that very thing happen on one of my rear remotes. It refused to return to center on its own without me moving it to the center position. Otherwise, you could have a broken spring and/or a broken detent retainer or washer. My guess is there is nothing broken, but only gummed up badly.

My parts manual shows repair kits rather than individual parts. There are several kits with the parts you and I are talking about included. You should not have to buy the whole 2-spool valve.

Well I'm feeling pretty lucky. As luck would have it the spring retaining cup (at the bottom of the boom control valve) had completely fallen off. Here's the best part, every single part was there even the spring, plunger and detent balls. ASAIK those are only available in ~$100 kit. So about 45 minutes of work I'm back in business.

Awesome!:) Now you can just hope your tilt steering doesn't quit working. My tilt damper/lock had to be replaced last year. It seems you are having a similar series of problems to what I've had.
