Loader bucket won't stay put or fully retract

Hello,

Working out in the field today moving down trees and all of a sudden the (New Holland TC45) 16LA loader stopped uncurling with weight when I would pull back with it to level soil - the bucket will pitch down but will not hold position once on the ground. The bucket clyinders will also not close the last 5 inches.

Also, when the joystick is pushed all the way to the right to uncurl quicker it actually curls upward.

The loader arms travel up/down without issue and the hydraulic fluid looks normal. Not sure where to start looking, would greatly appreciate any advice.

are the all QDs fully connected still?

Disconnect and reconnect all the QD's as a first shot. That solves a lot of problems. The next thing that I think could think of is inside the end caps of your spools are the spring returns, and in some cases, the detents. The screws on the spring returns will sometimes come loose and cause similar symptoms.

Thank you for the help. I'll try to disconnect the QD on Monday - just saw posts. I am new to the tractor world and will have to read up on the spool specs for the TC45D

On another note, our neighbor came over today and tried to bleed the system at the spool. It bleed fine but no foreign material came out as they thought and issue still presists.

One thing I don't understand is if the system has pressure taken off the clyinders shouldn't the bucket fully curl? It's still 5" from fully retracting.

How difficult is it to get into the clyinder to tighten the curl cylinder? Is special equipment required?

If the nut holding the piston on the rod had come off or loosened, you would not be able to make the cyl go into relief.

If you install a 3000 psi hyd gage in the IN port of the FEL valve, you can observe the pressures in the hyd system.

They are all fairly simple to take apart if you know what to look for. Some unscrew others have snap rings. Without looking @ it I cant direct you. Im sure some other members know how it comes apart.
It will have to come apart to fix it if this is the problem.

The reason I suspect the nut is off is the way its acting plus the fact that it wont retract. If the nut and gland have come off of the rod, then they are loose in the cyl preventing the rod from moving in all the way.

Diagnose this by extending rod halfway, then grab rod and push sideways. If it wobbles or flex inside the cyl tube then the gland is off. If its off it will also pull out of the tube once you unpin it from the bucket.

Snuck out to the barn today to look at the loader couplings. They didn't look out of place but the first hose was disconnected and while disconnected the second noticed one was loose so it was cleaned out and recoupled. IT WORKED! The tractor is back to normal. I'm not sure how it popped out. Maybe a stick hit when in the coupling while in the deep brush.

Because of the spillage the pressure on the bucket seems a bit weaker then normal. More fluid is probably needed but I can't see the measurement on the stick like I can with the oil.

With the engine stopped I pulled the hydraulic fluid measure stick out, whipped it clean, put back in, pulled out as straight as possible. The rod seems damp (streak of fluid a quarter of the way up) with a tear drop on the end. I'm not sure if that is the measurement of the build up of the fluid running down the stick. I'm really having a hard time telling the difference.
