Hi, I've had my 3120 for about 2 yrs and always ment to find out why it gives me a choice to have the engine governor working or not working (load match), I just leave load match on always. Is there a situation that I wouldn't want it on?

Thanks, Rudy

I have the Ehydro trans. and mine's been on for 2 1/2 years... Perhaps with a mechanical trans. one might want it off from time to time, if it's even available.

I was wondering this same thing, I'm expecting my new toy to come home any day now... Does it seem to be a useful feature? Have you ever stalled the eHydro machine without having it on?

I actually leave the load match off most of the time. I don't like the way it always is slowing down the speed when I don't want or need it. Say, I am going up a mild hill or my task gets a littler tougher and it wants to slow the tractor just to maintain an otherwise mild decrease in rpm. It seems like any minor load on the engine activates the load match. It just seems to vary the speed more than I like. For me, my foot on the hydro is the best load match I have. Even doing loader work, I prefer my foot over the load match. My foot does the work without even thinking about the engine load. Maybe it is because I have another hydro tractor without load match and a skid steer is why I don't use it much.
If you like it, use it.

Hi:

Load match does not turn/off the governer speed for the engine. What it does is if you attempt to overload the engine (Even with the governer wide open) it will reduce the forward speed and load on the hydro to prevent the engine from slowing down. It only works on E-Hydro transmissions. It basically overrides your pedal setting. I.E. Picture putting your 3120 in high range with the engine full RPM and nailing the forward pedal, it would slow way, way down. Load match sort of 'ignores' your full pedal request and only gives the hydro just enough forward speed to accellerate without dropping engine RPM's too much.

It's totally separate from the engine governer.

Rudy:

For maneuvering around or moving from place to place I leave load match off. It is always on when pulling a heavy load (logs) and usually the cruise control is also on if it is a long straight even pull. Both are on when traveling over bumpy terrain so than the bumps don't joggle my foot and cause me to go herky jerky.

Loadmatch was a big part of my choosing an ehydro transmission tractor (4720) at the time, especially after viewing the Loadmatch comparison video on the JD web site. It appeared to be two tractors in one. For light duty jobs that require not acting like a bull in a china shop I leave it off and when I have room and need serious power I let the computer do its job. Everybody who runs it (usually moving gravel or loaded pallets) remarks about the unexpected power for that size tractor.
