Load Leveler Hitch with Torsion Bars

I am fairly new to trailer towing but have been looking at different types of hitches and have a question.

Can the Load Leveler Hitch with Torsion Bars type arrangement be used with a pintle type ring connection or can it only be used with the ball type connection? I have 10k double axle trailer that came with a pintle ring and want to use the torsion bars for added stability and weight distribution. I will probably not be pulling more than around 5 or 6k pounds but who knows for sure.

I don't think it will work. The loadleveler hitches have the torsion bars mounted on the ball unit and are not designed for any slack.

Thanks for the information . I guess I could change the ring to a 2" ball coupler on the trailer if I have to.

Like Egon said, I think you'll need to change to a ball coupler, but I'd go with a 2 5/16" ball insted of 2".

That's a very good question he brings up.

I'd like to get a 12-14K dump trailer to haul around a smaller tractor in the near future. GMC recommends a weight distributing hitch with the kind of weight.

I'll have to remember to oder it with a 2&5/16" couple rather than a pintle hook.....

Actually I don't see why it wouldn't work with a pintle. The torsion (weight distributing) bars don't mount to the ball or really have anything to do with the ball/pintle. Them mount by way of the receiver and trailer tongue frame distributing the trailer weight to the receiver and rear axle of the tow vehicle. It really shouldn’t matter what kind of hitch connects the two. Of course I’ve never seen one set up with a pintle mostly because pintles are usually used on heavier equipment with enough axle load capacity where a w-d hitch wouldn’t be needed.

The ball mount and torsion bar holder are an integral piece all fitting into the receiver.

Barry, I agree that it probably could be done, but like you, have never seen one, so if you make your own hitch head, you'd sure want it to be strong enough.

I would think with all the "slop" in the pintle that the torsion bars & chains would really butcher-up the front frame of your trailer.
