In another thread, I was asking about cold weather storage since we hadn't had any snow. This week, we had a foot of snow, that contained 2" of sleet at the farm. We headed over after work, assuming we would be hiking up the 1/4 mile drive. We did. I hadn't put the chains on my New Holland tractor, so that left my 1964 Cub Lo-Boy. It has truf tires with chains and a 54" front blade.
I normally don't try to move snow with the Cub when we get over 6". 18 hp isn't a lot. But I was hoping that if I made multiple passes and took my time, I could clear the drive.
It was getting dark when we arrived, but I started the Cub and began cleaning the drive from the house to the road, a distance of 1400' and a drop of 250'. I worked an hour last evening, then finished this morning in bright 15 degree weather.
The Cub would push long sheet of the snow ice on the road. I found a technique of short runs, taking off the top of the snow about the length of the tractor, backing up and taking the snow down to the surface. It was slow and a number of trips on and off the Cub. I would do a section, back up, change the angle of the blade and do the other side of the drive. I spent a total of 3 hours.
I love this little Cub. In the last picture of the top row, you can see our red Jeep at the bottom of the hill.
