Hi,

I put a couple smileys [links to another site] in a post last night and they worked, but I happened to look at that thread this morning and they are gone. They were in the beginning of a string that also included several /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif faces, which remain.

So I assume someone edited them out. Whoever did the cutting might have sent me a private message advising me why...but they didn't ...so...I wonder why.

Here is one of the three:

Is there something wrong with linking to another site like this?

Seems like I have seen pictures linked a in a number of diffferent posts in the past.

I'm not complaining [other than perhaps if someone edits a post they should have the courtesy to advise the poster as to why] but rather I would like to know the reason.

I can understand one should not post copywrighted stuff, and all that, but is linking to a different site also bad to do?

For example, would inserting a image link that showed a product in an on-line catalog also be something to avoid? Would doing so be considered the same as posting a picture that one would cut and paste into a TBN post? There seems to be a difference, in that the link hides nothing [although I guess it may indirectly] but you do have to specifically look to see where it is located/coming from.

I was thinking that posting a link, rather than the a cut and past image, would be OK...guess not.

I am assuming there is nothing offensive in the above face drinking a glass of whatever... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Yes, and I believe the answer lies in the FAQ:

For example, if you have an image called cateye.gif and its available from your own website at http://www.mywebsite.com/pics, then you would use the following image markup:

My bold emphasis added. If it is an image from your website, it is ok to insert. If it is from another's website there may be copyright problems. I have inserted an image from a catalog in the past and it has been removed and a link inserted. However, Mike wrote me and told me why.

Actually, several of the moderators haven't been very active lately - the remaining ones may be too busy to reply and tell you why your post was changed.

Bill, I don't guess anyone edited them because they work for me.

I have begun to notice the need for a little more formatting and emoticon options around here...

I have also noticed that some of the moderators are carrying a lot of the load...

With the number of moderators that are MIA, the small number that we have are doing a good job. I do think that the remaining ones may be having a hard time keeping up with all of the threads. I do commend them for their service. Thank You Guys.

Are they 'gone' or not working. IOW, is there a red X appearing where they were (not working) or not there?

Henro,

I think you were looking at the wrong post. One of your posts from last night has several smileys, and the next oldest one has the linked smileys in question.

False alarm! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

... and some are just doing more reading than posting. Temporarily. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
