Lincoln Power MIG 256 for under $1,000???

Someone here in my town (local business) says they have like 10 of these for sale WITHOUT the leads.... (no idea what else might come with them)

Said "$200 - $800 depending on hours/condition"

Looks like the MSRP is around $2,500

Preface: I have NEVER welded anything, zero, nada but like the idea of learning so I can doodle around the property here and fix something or another.

My question is, does that strike you as a "shut up, go buy and ask questions later" or.... find out more of what is there or not. Supposedly, they're all in working order. (keeping in mind they do not come with leads and I've got zero experience)

I would wonder if they are "hot"...... before plugging them in.

If by hot you mean stolen.... I find this on Craigslist (which doesn't mean much) however, IF the map location is accurate, there is an equipment rental place dead center of the map circle.

Also, if by hot you mean stolen, though could be.... I'd find it harder to think that they would have stolen ten identical brand/models..... (verses a rental place which MIGHT have several of same)

So far, my radar isn't up.....but I've emailed them.

So, presuming all is correct and honest..... what are your thoughts?

If it were me,, I would buy the forth machine from the left,, THAT is clearly the best one of the bunch!! :thumbsup:

I would think this is a PERFECT first welder,, if it is from a rental store,,

Obviously, the rental place wanted to rent out the welder that would make their customer the most successful,,
so they probably put a LOT of effort in selecting a machine that is perfect for a novice,, as well as a professional.
Also, they would want a brand with the least downtime,,

if you know nothing about welding...I would ask if the welder could be checked out by a welding shop or store near you.
a few extra dollars would be well spent to make sure it works 100%

another thought.
ask them to fire one up while you watch. That many welders someone there must know something about welding.
