Tractor
massey ferguson 2600
I have a 2600 and bought a Woods core aerator (PL48). It works great and I am very pleased with the tractor but the distance the tractor lifts the aerator above the ground is only a couple of inches. The unit will scrape the ground in certain locations of my yard. The 3 point hitch brackets on the areator are high and most of the travel is wasted on getting to the connection points. Can I do anything to increase the distance between the ground and the aerator?

Can you provide a picture? Have you tired shorting the top link? Doing this should pull the back of it up.

Hi, Thanks for the response. Sorry I can not post picture but have tried both holes on top, now using the very top hole and still no luck. If you go to the woods web site and look at their aerators you will see the problem that I am having with this unit.To give you an idea of the problem my lower 3 point hitch bracket on my weight box is about 11 inches lower than the brackets on this unit.

On some tractors, the lift arms have more than 1 hole where the drop links attach. Moving to a hole closer to the implement will help. If that don't work, can you screw in the right and left drop links to make them shorter? Does your rear tires have enough air in them, If they are squatting you are losing lift there. If all else fails, lower the lift arm pins on the implement 2-3 inches. Ken Sweet

Hi Ken,
Thanks for your reply.
There are no extra holes on the lift arm, however the right side has a turnbuckle for adjustment. The left side has a solid rod. I am not sure why they would do something like that since adjusting one side would not help. I was thinking of ordering another adjustable arm for the other side. It seems to me that if they had a turnbuckle on one side than they should have adjustment holes on the other side. What am I missing?

I have had several customers do that. Some will also drill holes in both the lift arms out closer to the implement to get more lift. I would not suggest you do that. I am just telling you what others have done. Ken Sweet

I did look up the PL48 and have included the manual, incase you do have the .pdf. I understand your problem. I could not find a MF 2600, so I guessing you have the 2605?

Sorry if your already know the following and I did not not understand your response.

The top link is the screw bar that connects the top of the PL48 to the tractor. It screws out/in. I am NOT talking about the draft links that actually raise the PL48. If you screw it in (shorten it), it should tilt back towards the tractor.

The reason for the one adjustable side is that you can angle a box blade or whatever to cut a trench or if you are plowing and one wheel rides in a valley you can level the implement.

Hi,
Thanks for all your help. I never had a tractor in my life, lots of lawn mowers, riding mowers but nothing like this. I am 70 years old and thought it was about time. I bought the Massey Ferguson 2600, 4 direction hydraulic plow, loader, PTO drive spreader, weight box and Woods aerator. I guess you do get smarter as you get older!::laughing:
As you look at the back of my tractor on the right side there is a turnbuckle to the lift arm and as I am learning from the post above this can be useful for angleing equipment when needed. On the right side there is a solid bar to the lift arm. If I replace the left side with a turnbuckle this should give me an adjustment of about 4 inches at each end. This would then lift the areator more then enough to help me.
Again thanks for helping me and being so friendly!
John
