Lift off tandem fenders

I'm I the planning stage of a trailer rebuild but have already started. I want to design a lift off fender for clearance when I put a car on it I am rebuilding the floor with Box Tubing so I'm only interested in ideas relating to lift off fender designs. Thanks.

I had (since sold) a trailer made by H&H that had lift off fenders. There were tracks or 1/2" flat stock welded front and rear that the fender would slide down over. They were welded about 30* off vertical and stuck out about 1/8" from the trailer frame. The fenders had two handles welded on top and the fender slid down into the 1/8" slot made by the flat steel. Once the fender was on they were held down by a small version of the rubber hold downs used on a tractor trailer hood. Sorry I never took pics of the way they mounted but it was a simple system.

Thanks that did help. I just need to put some thought into it. I have found the simpler the better when it comes to these things.

My Gatormade came with "removable fenders." Only one problem, you can't take them off. They are held on with a wingnut on each end. Take the wingnuts off, they lift up about 2" and then the bottom of the fender flairs out and catches on the brackets that it is mounted it to. Can't slide it straight off to the side because the back of the fender is enclosed and catches on the tires. Best you can do is kind of tilt it to the side.

Around here most fenders have (require? Not sure to be honest) clearance lights, certainly at least the bigger trailers that are going to be wider than the tow vehicle. I would think the lights would be more of an issue than the mounting point. Trying to do up a loom with enough play to let you set the fender down beside it and not get ripped off during use, is going to require some thought.

Can you get away with reflectors instead of clearance lights where you are?

Or you could get a 2 wire connector and unhook them when removing fender

Update. Had some time to finish fabbing one fender and I like the result. Need to clean up some welds and paint but what do you think?

Are you able to unpin one end and set the pin up on top of your beam, then go to the other end and unpin? Otherwise, might require two people??

Unless there is some other means of support that I can't see, they are going to rattle really bad.

Never thought of that. But if I'm going after something that needs to have the fenders removed I will have someone with me. The boards were never fastened down and I never noticed any noise in the truck. We will see how they work. It's definatly a work in progress! Thanks for the input.
